University Excellence Awards coming May 10
Make plans to attend the University Faculty Awards at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, in 233 RSC. A reception will precede the ceremony at 2 p.m.
The deadline to RSVP is Wednesday, May 1 at Faculty Awards.
The University Faculty Awards recognizes faculty who are setting the gold standard for teaching, research and creative activity at Wichita State University. The Excellence in Teaching was established in 1964 by the University of Wichita Board of Regents, now known as the WSU Board of Trustees, to recognize superior teaching. Over time, additional awards with varying criteria have been established by the WSU Board of Trustees, Academic Affairs and Research Administration.

Sign-up for CourseLeaf Training (CIM) Training
Additional training sessions have been added for the new CourseLeaf Curriculum (CIM) system. CIM is the new online curriculum change system replacing the current paper curriculum change forms. Any faculty, staff and administrators involved in the curriculum change process, submitting and approving curriculum change forms, etc., are encouraged to attend training.
Sessions will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, April 16), and 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1. Both trainings cover all content need for using CIM.

3rd annual DiverseCity Showcase Kick-off and Week
On behalf of the President’s Diversity Council, we are proud to announce our 3rd annual diversity showcase, DiverseCity. This week-long event today (Monday, April 15) to Saturday, April 20, gives Shocker Nation a glance of the successes from individuals, departments and organizations in the campus community that were made possible through diversity. Throughout the week, we encourage you to stop by and support the various events. This is a great way to get involved at Wichita State and celebrate the various kinds of diversity offer. Marche Fleming-Randle, vice president for Diversity and Community Engagement, will provide remarks to kick-off the start of DiverseCity. We encourage you to view all of the work from the submissions that highlight successes related to diversity. The showcase kick-off takes place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today (Monday, April 15), in 233 Rhatigan Student Center.
Parking lot closures this week
Parking lots 3N, 3S, and 11 (between Cessna Stadium and Devlin Hall) will continue to be blocked off for the rest of April while the stadium lights are being repaired.
Monday, April 15: 50 stalls in lot 21N (corner of Mike Oatman Drive and 21st St.) will be blocked off for the 50-year reunion until about 1 p.m.
Thursday, April 18: All of lot 7 (south of the RSC) will be closed for an alumni event all day.

Criminal Justice Career Fair today (Monday, April 15)
The Criminal Justice Student Association and the School of Criminal Justice present the Criminal Justice Career Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today (Monday, April 15), on the third floor, RSC.
WSU students can network with employers who are looking to hire interns, co-op students and full-time employees. Participating agencies include Customs and Boarder Protection, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Wichita Police Department and more! Learn more.
Enrollment for summer and fall is in full swing
Advisors have been busy the last few weeks reaching out to students who need advising to set up plans for summer and fall. Outreach is sent to students through email from a new scheduling system, called Navigate (previously known as the Student Success Collaborative, or SSC).
These emails are official, and students are instructed to click on a link inside the email to schedule an appointment from their computer, laptop, phone, tablet or whatever device they may be using. Click here to see an example of the messaging to students.
Seminar to feature Joshua Saxe, chief data scientist at Sophos
A seminar on “The Artificial Intelligence Revolution in Security: Automation, Human Intelligence, and the Future of Network Defense,” will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, in 264 Experiential Engineering Building. The seminar will feature Joshua Saxe, chief data scientist at Sophos.
The event is sponsored by the WSU Hub for Cyber Security Education and Awareness, College of Engineering, and the Wichita Air Chapter of AFCEA.
Abstract: Modern computer network defense has failed to keep up with evolving attacker techniques. Artificial intelligence (machine learning, combined with expert systems and other methods), holds the promise of helping to improve the situation.
In this talk I will provide an accessible introduction to machine learning and its most successful subfield, deep learning, by drawing examples from my own work. Specifically, I’ll survey my colleagues and my research in the areas of malware detection, cyber threat intelligence, and reverse engineering.
Finally, I’ll talk about the ways in which AI driven cybersecurity is likely to reshape the way we defend our networks going forward.
Bio: Joshua Saxe is the Chief Data Scientist at Sophos. He leads the data science team with a particular focus on inventing, evaluating, and deploying deep learning detection models in support of a next-gen endpoint security solutions. Before Sophos, Josh led machine learning research at Invincea, where he was Principal Investigator on multiple DARPA and U.S. government-funded machine learning security projects.

WSU TV app launch
WSU TV is proud to announce the launch of the WSU TV Streaming app, which is available on leading Over-The-Top (OTT) and mobile devices. We invite the campus to come out and see them in action from 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, April 25, in 142 RSC.
The new apps are on iOS and Android mobile devices and on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon TV apps. They feature video content from video producers across campus, including WSU TV, Strategic Communications, the Ulrich Museum, and more.

‘Developing Budgets: How to Avoid a Budget Battle Before a Grant Goes Out’ workshop on April 25

Citation Search and Altmetrics for T&P Dossiers workshop coming tomorrow (Tuesday, April 16)
Want to get a head start on working on your tenure and promotion dossier? Want to determine the impact of your research?
Come to the University Libraries’ Citation Searching and Altmetrics for T&P Dossiers workshop from 1-2:30 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, April 16) in 217 Ablah Library. The librarians will give training on cited reference searching in the Scopus database and Google Scholar. They will also discuss alt(ernative) metrics, the movement to find new ways to look at the use and impact of specific research in today’s ever expanding professional social networks. There will be time for hands-on practice.
Please note: Specific resources covered will include Scopus, Google Scholar, ORCID, Mendeley, Research Gate, Academia.edu, Scopus altmetrics, and PlumX. Consult with your department and/or college T&P committee regarding expectations for presenting this information in your dossier. Reservations are appreciated but not required.
Graduate Research and Scholarly Projects (GRASP) Symposium coming April 26
All are welcome to join the Graduate School at the annual university-wide symposium of student research and poster presentations on Friday, April 26, on the third floor, RSC!
Come support students at the opening remarks and poster session from 9 a.m.-noon. Submit your “People’s Choice” vote for best poster. Judges will review posters and listen to presenters. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners at the closing general session from 1-1:30 p.m.

WSU Neurodiversity Awareness Week coming April 22-26
Neurodiversity is both a philosophy and emerging civil rights movement.
To promote awareness and acceptance of autism within the WSU community, the WSU Neurodiversity Awareness Week: Autism Spectrum Disorder was initiated. The second annual event will take place April 22-26.
Each day, throughout the week, events have been scheduled with the overarching goal of reframing the discussion about autism among faculty, staff, and students. Rather than focus on autism as a deficit or disability, conversations will focus on autism as a difference or “neurological variation”, while acknowledging the challenges of this brain difference. All events are free and open to the public.
Neurodiversity assumes that some degree of neurological difference is inherent in the human genome. Acknowledging and appreciating the extensive range of human neurologies, including those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), while also acknowledging and appreciating the challenges of brain differences is fundamental to neurodiversity. The neurodiversity movement is gaining recognition across industries. In doing so, campuses are recognizing the strengths individuals who are neurodiverse bring to learning and problem-solving situations that can lead to innovation.
Take a tour of The Suites residence hall
Housing and Residence Life is currently offering hard hat tours of Wichita State’s newest residence hall, The Suites at WSU. Tours are about 20 minutes in length, and are offered every day, Monday through Friday, from 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m.
