HealthQuest May 2019

Employees enrolled in 2019 coverage through the State Employee Health Plan can earn a premium discount worth $480 annually and HSA/HRA rewards dollars up to $500 per year for each employee and covered spouse, just by participating and logging healthy activities throughout the year! Start by registering in the HealthQuest portal.

Final round of Shocker New Venture Competition is tomorrow (Friday, May 3)

Seven teams emerged as victors from the Shocker New Venture Competition Trade Show that was held Friday, April 26, at Wichita State.

The teams pitched their new venture to approximately 200 judges throughout the afternoon. These judges were given 10,000 Shocker Dollars to invest in the teams they believed to have the best chance of succeeding in the marketplace. Those receiving the greatest amount of investment dollars are proceeding to the Finals Round of the Shocker New Venture Competition, presented by the WSU Center for Entrepreneurship. 

You are invited to attend the Finals Round from 1-4 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, May 3), in Devlin Hall. A reception will be held following the presentations from 4-6 p.m., with the awards being presented at 5 p.m.  Parking for the event is located on the northwest corner of 21st Street and Yale.

WSU announces spring commencement schedule, speakers

More than 2,400 students are eligible to participate in the 121st spring commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 18, at Wichita State University. Ceremonies will be held in Charles Koch Arena. Undergraduate and graduate degrees will be conferred in college ceremonies.

The public should be advised that security will be in place and plan additional time for screening by metal detector to enter the arena. Doors will open at 7 a.m. and remain open throughout the day.

Join University Libraries for a reception celebrating the URCAF and GRASP winners from noon-1 p.m. today (Thursday, May 2), in the Learning Commons, Ablah Library. Winning posters will be displayed for a week after the opening reception. The library will provide cookies and lemonade.

Join us for all-you-can-eat hot dogs brought to you by The Fuse and the College of Applied Studies. Try a specialty hotdog named after an academic college, or build your own. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and dinner from 6-8 p.m. today (Thursday, May 2) in Corbin Connect (Corbin 156A). Proceeds from the event support Girls on the Run.


Shocker Rowing to host Plains Regional Regatta on May 5

Shocer Rowing hosts Plains Regatta May 5, 2019

Shocker Rowing is proud to host the first annual Plains Regional Regatta on Sunday, May 5. The regatta will hold races for teams in the plains area, providing them with the opportunity to race close to home.

The regatta will take place at Shocker Rowing’s River Vista boathouse and the teams will race on the Big River. Races will start at 8 a.m. and end around 3 p.m. Come and cheer on the Shocks as they race on their home river. See the Plains Regional Regatta website for more information.

WSU and WSU Tech to sign new transfer agreement

WSU and WSU Tech 2+2 agreement May 6, 2019

Wichita State and WSU Tech invite you to the 2+2 articulation agreement signing ceremony and reception at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the National Center for Aviation Training. This new agreement will provide WSU Tech students with a seamless transfer into the new Workforce Leadership and Applied Learning Degree offered by the College of Applied Studies. Come celebrate the near-end of the semester at a relaxing social with other grad students and faculty from 3-5 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, May 3), at the Ulrich Museum of Art. 

Cosponsors Graduate School and the Ulrich Museum will supply good eats (heavy hors d’oeuvres, adult and soft beverages) at WSU’s nationally recognized modern and contemporary art museum. A wonderful summer exhibition will be on display in all galleries.

This Diversity in Action interactive training will highlight the benefits of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, social identities, recognizing and understanding microaggressions, introducing the matrix of oppression, understanding how to get past stereotypes and prejudices, addressing issues, as well as how and who to report them to. 

This interactive training from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, in 266 RSC, is designed to shape your understanding of diversity and inclusion while providing an open forum for questions and concerns.  Find out more about this Diversity in Action Program

Check out the Home in Harmony Tour ‘Vintage Venue’

Home in Harmony Tour May 5, 2019

Join Tim and Gail Buchanan as they open their lovely new home for the 48th Homes in Harmony Tour from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at 1875 N. 159th Street East. Tickets are $15.

Proceeds are used to provide scholarships to music students at WSU and Friends University, and to make a generous contribution to the annual Kodaly Institute held at WSU in the summers. During the event, WSU School of Music professors Julie Bees and Leonid Shukaev will perform piano and cello selections at the home tour from 3-4 p.m., and Judith Fear (former WSU piano instructor) will perform piano selections from 4-4:30 p.m.

Space Odyssey with Mark Herman is a musical journey through space with the Wichita Wurlitzer. The program at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, in Exhibition Hall, Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center, will feature a vast range of music, composers, and genres. Herman is one of America’s busiest theatre organists, performing more than 30 concerts and silent film presentations each year across the United States and abroad.
