New accelerated bachelor's-to-master's program in exercise science
The accelerated exercise science program allows students to fast-track their way to a master's degree. In five years, students complete both a bachelor's and master's degree in exercise science and are well prepared for high-demand careers in a wide range of settings such as health care, fitness industry, and community-based programs.

Employees reaching service milestones will be honored at invitation-only events in November
Employees who reach a service milestone between the dates of Sept. 2, 2018 and Sept. 1, 2019, will be honored at invitation-only events hosted by the university in November. Events will honor those with service of five to 50 years, those achieving the Bender of Twigs distinction, and those having retired from the university.
Each department is strongly encouraged to celebrate their colleagues in a way that would be meaningful for the honoree. To view a list of employees reaching a service milestone, visit wichita.edu/servicerecognition.
CourseLeaf Curriculum (CIM) training, open labs and new form
Additional training and open lab sessions are available now in myTraining for the CourseLeaf Curriculum (CIM) system. A link to the new CIM Misc Admin Form has also been added to the CourseLeaf links in myWSU. Use this new form for various proposals requiring governance including policy changes and requests for online major codes or new subject codes. Each request will have its own electronic workflow.

Employees can drop in anytime during the open enrollment lab for assistance registering and entering enrollment elections. You can RSVP at www.wichita.edu/openenrollment. Open Enrollment Labs do not include a presentation of plans or changes.
Due to the high volume of work during the open enrollment period, the HR Total Rewards Team will not be available for walk-in traffic or to make individual appointments regarding open enrollment. Please take advantage of the scheduled presentations, on-demand webinar and open lab sessions.

Did you know that WSU’s accessibility standards extend to the in-person classroom? Now is a good time to familiarize yourself with these standards so you can be confident that your in-class presentation habits help you reach all students equally.

- The guidelines include recommendations, which are reach goals to try for, and expectations, which are the minimum standard for all in-person classes at WSU.
The text-size indicators in all WSU classrooms are part of this program. If you are unsure how to interpret and possibly mitigate text-size issues, IDA has provided a short training article for you.
Join the F1rst-Gen CC for a brown bag webinar on Thursday, Oct. 17
The F1rst-Generation Coordinating Council (FGCC) will host the 60-minute webinar, "Becoming an Individual & Institutional Advocate for First-generation College Students," with a brief Q&A session from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in 142 RSC. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch to the presentation.
About this webinar: First-generation students are shown to have stronger academic and completion outcomes in environments where their needs are understood and thoughtful relationships are established. This live briefing will focus on opportunities for student and academic affairs professionals of all functional areas and levels to become individual and institutional advocates for first-generation student success.

Hear about ‘Discovering Mars’ from representatives of the Lake Afton Public Observatory
Kelly Kabler and Cassie Gearhart of the Lake Afton Public Observatory will talk about NASA's missions to Mars and how that has shaped our understanding of the Red Planet at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 16) in 101 Geology Building. They will also discuss the observatory and its history with Wichita.

School of Education organizes Shock the Schools event
The School of Education partnered with USD 259 to "Shocks the Schools" through organizing a service project at a local school. Thanks to donations from Botanica, Johnson's Garden Centers, Tree Top Nursery, and Lowe's, the department and Nature Club at Irving Elementary School were able to beautify the courtyard at Irving.
Artists wanted to transform utility boxes at WSU Tech
Attention artists! WSU Tech needs your help to bring some new artistic style to their main campus at 4004 N. Webb Rd. Several artists will be selected to paint original designs on electrical box covers throughout the campus, with an artist stipend of $400 per box. Ulrich Museum exhibition catalogue wins Best Graphic Design Award from Kansas Museum Association
A colorful exhibition catalogue showcasing the work of an important Wichita artist and published by Wichita State University’s Ulrich Museum of Art has been chosen for an award by the Kansas Museum Association (KMA).
The catalogue, Kevin Mullins: Fire in the Paint Locker, was recently named Top Graphic Design by the KMA. The award will be presented to Ulrich Director Leslie Brothers at the association’s awards luncheon on Friday, Nov. 8 in Lindsborg, Kansas.
The retrospective catalogue, which features more than 100 color images and four color fold-outs, was published to coincide with the art exhibition of the same name, which was on display at the Ulrich from April 12 through Aug. 11 this year. The book was produced with the help of Wichita-based integrated marketing agency Howerton+White.
Ulrich Director Leslie Brothers said the award was especially meaningful given the artist’s ties to the Wichita community.
“We are extremely proud of this book, which pays tribute to the wonderful work Kevin Mullins produced during his lifetime,” Brothers said. “This project was truly a group effort, bringing together the insightful talents of UIrich staff, Howerton+White, and exhibition co-curators Ann Resnick and Dan Rouser.”
Along with the many color images of Mullins’s work over a 30-year period, the catalogue also features five insightful essays by David Butler, former Ulrich director; Elizabeth Dunbar, former Ulrich curator; Bill North, director of the Salina Art Center; art critic Mike Odom; and artist David Reed. It also includes an introduction by co-curator Rouser.
Mullins was a beloved figure on the Wichita art scene long before his work started to receive international attention. From 1995 to 2010, he served as the curator for exhibitions at the Ulrich while still maintaining an active studio practice. In 1997, he and Resnick opened Project, an art gallery near Douglas and Hydraulic, helping to revitalize that area of town while also introducing world-class artists to the Wichita community.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Ulrich has received an award from KMA. Last year, the museum received the association’s Technology Award for its Ulrich App, which helps patrons navigate its world-class Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection.
Although the Mullins exhibition is no longer on display at the Ulrich, copies of the catalogue can still be purchased for $60 each by visiting the museum’s website (ulrich.wichita.edu) or by clicking this link.

Host a trunk at Trunk or Treat!
Trunk or Treat is a family-orientated event welcoming Shockers of all ages to campus for a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. Student Activities Council wants your department or student organization to host a trunk!
Register your department to host a festively decorated trunk at the event and provide candy and/or interactive activities for the families of WSU students, faculty, and staff, as well as kids from the local USD 259 school system. Register your trunk here! Registration closes Friday, Oct. 18.
