Continuity of Instruction Task 7: Building Quizzes in Blackboard

To support instructors during this time of transition from in-person classes to online / remote delivery, Instructional Design and Access has created 10 set of tasks to help those who are new to online learning to be successful. Each day we will post one "Task Set" for instructors to work through.

Task Set #7: Building Quizzes in Blackboard

Task 7 walks instructors through how to build quizzes using the Test tool in Blackboard. Please send any questions to IDA@wichita.edu.

Blackboard and Remote Teaching Labs through Zoom

Instructional Design and Access is maintaining open labs through Zoom. These are come-and-go labs you can reach via this Zoom link between the hours of 1-3 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday through May 20.

We will do our best to take anyone who needs help when they arrive to the lab, but if the Zoom lab area gets too full at any one time, we may need to ask you to join later. We can address Blackboard, Zoom, Panopto, accessibility, and remote pedagogy questions.

If you prefer, we also offer a direct email address where you can send your questions, concerns, and frustrations: IDA@wichita.edu, and we have extensive resources on our webpages: https://wichita.edu/IDA

Adjustments in HR service delivery WSU

The health and safety of our employees is of the utmost importance, and we have been told that the best method to protect ourselves during this time is through social distancing. We also know that employees have a need to interact with HR during these unsettling times. In order to accommodate both of these needs, Human Resources will adjust how services will be provided to our WSU employee community.

Beginning today (Monday, March 23), Human Resources will have limited staff physically on campus, but will have full HR support available to employees through many different social distancing methods including email, telephone, Skype, and Zoom video and audio conferencing.

We will temporarily suspend in-person service at the HR office, to safeguard employees and remain diligent in our efforts to support social distancing. We are providing the following information to assist employees in navigating Human Resources until social distancing methods are no longer required.

Airline industry's financial outlook hits turbulence amidst COVID-19

As an industry, airlines are essential to our domestic and international way of life in the United States. Our economy depends on the ability to move about the country and the world freely, quickly and efficiently. The COVID-19 virus outbreak has made us all rethink how and why we use this amazing system of air travel. This essential travel-only request from our national and local officials is certainly a prudent part of the effort to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 virus on the country.  It comes with a myriad of national, local and personal economic hardships.

The Marketing and Branding Study is charged with actively engaging members of our campus community to examine how effectively we are branding and marketing our institution and provide recommendations.

The Student and Community Experience Survey seeks to engage students, campus community and the greater Wichita community to examine how effectively we are creating a positive "Shocker" experience for events and programs at Wichita State.

Online tax appointments

The Office for Student Money Management encourages all students, faculty, and staff to file their taxes as soon as possible before the April 15 deadline. We currently partner with the United Way to offer a free online tax program at MyFreeTaxes.com through H&R Block. While our services are free, this software MAY charge for any individual who has a health savings plan, 1099s, or other Schedule C-D-E tax forms. It does not charge for filing W2's and 1098T.

We also help international students using the Glacier Tax Filing software found on their MyWSU. International students will need to have a personal laptop / computer, their passport, I-20, and I-94 forms ready. Please be sure to have an access code for creating a new account through Glacier prior to scheduling with us. An email from the International Office has already been sent out on these instructions.

Our staff is fully trained to help guide you through the process of doing taxes on your own. Please take this opportunity and schedule an appointment with us. We are now providing our services ONLINE ONLY and are not meeting students in-person.

For all other questions or to schedule an appointment, call us at 978-3254 or email at osmm@wichita.edu.
