Troubleshoot problems with images in Blackboard tests

If you are delivering tests in Blackboard, you need to know that image uploads are not always showing up correctly for students. If you are using images in tests, please read through this short training to ensure your images have been added in a way students can see when they take the test.

Would you like a Blackboard expert to look over your test and review your test settings to ensure they reflect your goals? Email a request for a review to Instructional Design and Access at IDA@wichita.edu.

Zoom Alert changes

Alert: Zoom security changes

In response to recent incidents of Zoom bombing of campus meetings, the ability to disable the use of a password for a meeting has been turned off in the university’s Zoom accounts.

This means that zoom events that have been created with the password disabled will now require passwords.

This does NOT mean that users will always need to manually enter a password as they enter an event.  If meeting hosts share updated meeting invitation information, the new link to the meeting will include the password, and no manual entry will be required.

If it is easier to provide a password than it is to update the invitation information, meeting passwords can be found in the invitation to the meeting, or by opening the “Participants” tool in the zoom session and clicking on “invite.”

Meeting attendees who can’t access an event because they don’t have the password or an updated meeting URL will need to contact the host for that information.

To find out more information about Zoom security, go to wichita.edu/zoomsafe.

Support groups in Kansas

Resources available to support students, staff, and community during this challenging time

We are living and working in a time of change and disruption. Not only disruption of what we do and how we do it, but disruptions in relationships integral to our personal and professional lives. As a result of these circumstances, we may experience anxiety, stress, sadness, loneliness, grief, and so on. Connecting with people who share similar experiences during this time can be critical for our physical and emotional health.

To help you navigate these changing times, the WSU Community Engagement Institute has added a list of resources to the Kansas Support Groups Website. This includes information on resources related to physical and mental health, self-care, safety, and more.

The website also houses an online database with information on various local, state and national support groups and resources. This database is available year-round and is searchable by county or topic.

Find resources related to COVID-19 and others at http://supportgroupsinkansas.org/coronavirus or email supportgroups@wichita.edu for more information.

Beta Alpha Psi officers 2020

Students represent WSU at regional conference

Beta Alpha Psi is the national academic fraternity for accounting, finance and MIS students. Members must attend professional meetings with business leaders and complete volunteering hours. BAP provides an opportunity for these students to network with area businesses and obtain internships and ultimately full-time positions. BAP hosts two Meet the Firms events during the academic year and more than 35 firms attend. The event is open to all Barton School of Business students, and they can bring resumes and network with employers.

Officers who attended regionals early in the semester were Nathan Hayden, Sayed Bari, Will Davis and Josh Freeman. They participated in a national competition by giving a presentation on how BAP students engage in the community and nonprofit activities.

At Christmas 2019, BAP worked with the Salvation Army by adopting four families and providing meals and toys for the children. Members learn soft skills, such as interviewing techniques, resume building, business communication, business etiquette and ethics. They also have an opportunity to meet and visit with business professionals, which can lead to internships and job opportunities, not only just after graduation but three-to-five years in the future with continued networking.
