Kansas NSF seeking white papers

The Kansas NSF EPSCoR office is seeking white papers for Major Initiatives to Improve Research Infrastructure

Kansas NSF EPSCoR (KNE) is announcing a funding opportunity for Major Initiatives to Improve Research Infrastructure in the focus area of Adaptive and Resilient Systems.

In summer 2021, Kansas NSF EPSCoR will submit a Research Infrastructure Improvement (RII) Track-1 proposal to the National Science Foundation (NSF) Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). To develop the proposal, KNE is seeking proposals that will make up a key component of this multi-million dollar/multi-year request to NSF.

The selected initiative is expected to foster an interdisciplinary research community of engineers, computer and computational scientists, social and behavioral scientists, and natural scientists that creates new approaches and engineering solutions for the design and operation of infrastructure, processes, or services.

One major initiative will be selected to be included, along with other infrastructure-building components, in the $20 million RII Track 1 EPSCoR proposal, which will be submitted in August 2021.

Wellness departments double down

WSU Wellness departments double down to deliver free resources at students’ fingertips

After moving to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, many universities chose to reduce services that would normally be provided to on-campus students, including furloughing health providers.

“With the economic devastation and social isolation caused by this pandemic, we knew students needed wellness resources more than ever to help them weather the storm,” says Dr. Jessica Provines, Vice President of Wellness at Wichita State University. Wichita State Wellness Services were able to maintain their outreach to students through reimagining services, instead of reducing them.

All three departments – Student Health Services (SHS), Campus Recreation and Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS) – moved to social media to remind students that services were still available. Live content continues online, with weekly meditations from Campus Recreation and CAPS, and informative livestreams such as SHS’s Tuesday Talks and CAPS’s The Day of the Week. SHS and CAPS also moved to online appointments so that in-need students would not go without health care.
