A message from the president
As we enter a new year, I am proud to announce Kaye Monk-Morgan will transition to a permanent vice president role where she will continue to focus on strategic engagement and planning. Effective in January, Monk-Morgan will begin serving as the Vice President for Strategic Engagement and Planning.
Growing Wichita, our region and our state is a crucial part of our mission and the Kansas Board of Regents’ strategic plan, and this role will be instrumental in meeting these objectives.
In her new role, Monk-Morgan will be responsible for university-wide strategic planning, assessment and accreditation, TRIO/GEAR-UP, community-based centers, engaging with the community around the university’s priorities, and advising the President and Executive Vice President/Provost on matters related to WSU’s strategic objectives.
Primarily reporting is to the Executive Vice President/Provost, with a secondary reporting to the President for strategic planning and community engagement, she will serve on various boards and committees, both within the university and in the external community, as an extension of the President and Executive Vice President/Provost.
I want to thank Monk-Morgan for continually stepping up to the challenge and leading
the way in this important university and community work.
Sincerely,
Rick Muma
Interim President

Convergence Sciences researchers target 3D printing waste
The 3D printing revolution is nothing short of remarkable, but it also produces a considerable amount of waste. In fact, it’s estimated that up to 19% of 3D printing is waste.
A team of interdisciplinary researchers at Wichita State University is working to create sustainable 3D printing practices to reduce that waste.
This project is one of four awardees of Wichita State University’s Convergence Sciences Initiative.
Kansas NASA EPSCoR Program is requesting proposals for a Seed Research Initiation Grant opportunity
A jurisdiction of the NASA Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) program, the Kansas NASA EPSCoR Program (KNEP) is managed through the NASA in Kansas office. The goal of NASA EPSCoR is to provide seed funding that will enable jurisdictions to develop an academic research enterprise directed toward long-term, self-sustaining, nationally competitive capabilities in aerospace and aerospace-related research. This capability will, in turn, contribute to the jurisdiction’s economic viability and expand the nation’s base for aerospace research and development.
The Partnership Development Grant (PDG) opportunity recipient is expected to initiate, develop, and formalize a meaningful professional relationship with a NASA researcher. Given this expectation, it is vital investigators and students travel to a NASA center if selected for an award.
