McGregor Scholarship recipient announced
Yuki To
Yuki To, senior at Wichita East High School, is the winner of the 2021 Lenora N. McGregor Endowed Scholarship at Wichita State University. The Lenora N. McGregor Endowed Scholarship awards up to $26,000 over four years to an incoming freshman student who has demonstrated academic excellence, has an academic vision for the future and who expresses an interest in advancing knowledge through individual learning. The McGregor Scholar agrees to maintain active membership in Wichita State's Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College. Yuki plans to major in health science and minor in business administration.
Barton School adding master’s program in business analytics
The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University has added a Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) to its wealth of degree options for graduate students.
The new MSBA was developed as an interdisciplinary program with resources and faculty from the Barton School as well as the College of Engineering and the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to address the growing needs of industry. Admission to this STEM-designated program is now open.
“Technological advances are generating a massive amount of data in every field of business including operations, supply chain, marketing and finance,” said Dr. Sue Abdinnour, MSBA program director at the Barton School. “Analytics help turn big data into actionable insights that impact business strategy and decision making. The focus of this program is to train future business leaders on state-of-the-art analytics tools and techniques.”
2021 biometric screenings now available
Biometric screening dates for the remainder of 2021 have been added to the online scheduler. All screening events are held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in RSC 266 Pike. Appointments must be scheduled in advance, and the available times fill up quickly so log in to the HealthQuest portal to secure your appointment today. Click on the "Complete Your Biometric Screening" tab, then click the desired on-site screening schedule to launch the scheduling site.
Attendees earn five HealthQuest points just for attending, and up to 18 additional points for blood pressure, blood glucose, and total blood cholesterol within ideal ranges, for up to 23 points and $230 HSA/HRA rewards dollars. If your metrics are outside of the ideal ranges, you can still earn the same points by participating in the online learning modules in the HealthQuest portal on blood pressure, blood sugar management, and/or high cholesterol, as needed.

Celebrate Women's History Month with ODI
Every year, March is designated as Women's History Month to celebrate and honor women's contributions to history, culture and society. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion proudly celebrates Women's History Month every year. Learn more about the programs at wichita.edu/odievents.
Women's History Month derived from a week-long celebration of women's contributions to culture, history and society organized by the school district of Sonoma, California in 1978. Several years later, the idea was caught on within communities, school districts and organizations across the country. By 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women's History Week. Thereafter, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution establishing a national celebration. Approximately six years later, the National Women's History Project petitioned Congress to expand the event to the entire month of March.
Call for 2021-22 Faculty Fellowship applications
Each year, Academic Affairs supports Faculty Fellows in a variety of areas. Faculty have the opportunity to learn new skills and serve our students in different ways through these fellowships. More information and submission details are provided on the Academic Affairs webpages linked below. All applications are due Friday April 2, 2021.
- Tilford Incentive Grant – develop new diversity infused curricula or advance pedagogy to teach diverse populations.
- Recruitment Faculty Fellows – provide direct outreach to prospective students in high school and community colleges.
- Retention Faculty Fellows – identify and implement strategies to promote student success and retention
- Service-Learning Scholars – incorporate service-learning pedagogy in your curricula.
- Honors College Fellows - develop independent or collaborative projects to advance Honors education and high-impact practices across campus
- Open Alternative Textbook (OAT) Fellow – promote use of open educational resources (OER) and assist faculty in identifying OER’s for their courses

Ulrich looks at connection between basketball, contemporary art
It’s March Madness and the Ulrich Museum of Art on the Wichita State University campus is excited for the Shockers to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. The museum is getting ready for Wichita State's first game this week with an exciting virtual program that looks at the powerful connection between basketball and contemporary art.
Join the Ulrich at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when Emily Stamey, curator of exhibitions at the Weatherspoon Art Museum, discusses her latest curatorial project, “To the Hoop: Basketball and Contemporary Art.” The exhibition was scheduled to be on display at the Ulrich last fall, but had to be canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Stamey will talk about the show, which combines photography, fashion, prints, and other artistic depictions of the sport to look at a number of pressing social issues such as over-commercialization, gender and racial identity, and the urban-rural divide in this country, among others. Her talk is free and open to all, but registration is required to get the Zoom link.

Monroy wins teaching award
Congratulations to Dr. Salinas Monroy on winning the Academy for Effective Teaching Award. Monroy is an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Established in 1996, these awards are given by Wichita State's Academy for Effective Teaching, a group of outstanding emeriti faculty nominated for membership by current faculty and staff at Wichita State. Recipients of the AET Award are chosen through a multi-stage process. After collecting nominations from current upper-division and graduate students, the 10-person AET Steering Committee creates a short list of excellent teachers, each of whom is invited to submit a teaching portfolio. On the basis of the portfolios, the AET Steering Committee recommends winners to the provost, who makes the final award. Awardees who are full-time faculty receive a $2,000 addition to their base salary beginning the following academic year; adjunct awardees receive a one-time $2,000 award.
