Rules and Guidelines for all cruise participants
- This is a Wichita State Shocker Themed Commencement Cruise. Please show your Shocker spirit with your cruise entry! The Commencement Cruise Committee reserves the right of final decision on entries accepted for the cruise and will give preference to those entries that are on theme and show their Shocker pride.
- The Commencement Cruise Committee reserves the right to bar from the cruise, at any time, any entry not conforming to these rules and regulations, or refusing to follow instructions of the police or cruise officials.
- Each college will be limited to one vehicle. All vehicle drivers must be 18 or older, have unobstructed visibility, and must hold a legal driver’s license.
- All individuals and motorized vehicles must have their own liability insurance.
- A distance no greater than 10 feet must be maintained between the parade units AT ALL TIMES. Parade officials will direct movement.
- NO SIRENS, HORNS, LOUD MOTORIZED VEHICLES OR REVVING OF ENGINES WILL BE ALLOWED DURING THE CRUISE. Participants in violation will be removed from the cruise.
- Participants may not display items which discriminates against, is offensive to or disparages any person or group on the basis of race, gender, national origin, disability, political viewpoint, age, religion, sexual orientation or personal characteristics.
- No alcoholic beverages are allowed on or in any entry vehicle. No consumption of alcoholic beverages by cruise participants will be permitted before or during the cruise. Cruise officials will monitor all entries.
- The use of tobacco products, in any form, is prohibited on all Wichita State University properties. These products include, but are not limited to: cigarettes, cigarillos, cigars, roll your own tobacco, snus and other spitless products, e-cigarettes, hookah, pipes and smokeless tobacco.
- Safety regulations prohibit the throwing of candy or other materials during the cruise. You will be ejected from the cruise if observed throwing any items to the observers. NATIONALLY EACH YEAR, CHILDREN ARE KILLED WHEN RUNNING FOR CANDY THROWN FROM PARADE ENTRIES. PLEASE RESPECT OUR CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF CHILDREN.

Decorated Automobiles
One Automobile/vehicle is allowed per college. Entries may be a golf cart, car or truck 2 axles or fewer.
Walking Units
Walkers are the graduates, walking behind the colleges automobile/vehicle they are graduating from.
Vehicle Rules
Operating Vehicles

- All Kansas Rules of the Road apply while operating vehicles on Wichita State University property, whether privately owned or a Rental.
- Obey all posted traffic signs (such as, speed limits) and the rules and regulations. Watch for bicycles, pedestrians, and other vehicular traffic.
- Off-road, ATV, utility or construction-type carts are prohibited.
- All vehicles must be equipped with operating head and taillights.
- Drivers may not be under the influence of alcohol, chemical substances, or controlled substances.
- The use of any electronic communication device to send or read text messages, e-mails or any other written communication while operating a vehicle is prohibited.
- A hands-free device must be used for all cellular phone calls taking place while operating a vehicle.
- Vehicle drivers must be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid driver’s license. The license must remain with the driver at all times while operating the vehicle. Driver’s Learner Permits are not acceptable.
- Children are not permitted to sit on driver’s lap.
- Children may not assist in driving a vehicle at any time.
- Every passenger must sit in a seat. No standing.
- Carts must remain on roadways and designated paths only. Off-roading is prohibited.
- Larger vehicles have “right of way”. Carts must yield to larger vehicles. Keep to the right on roadways to allow larger vehicles to pass and yield to pedestrians.
Decorations

- Decorations must not disguise, cover, or interfere with any safety device, including headlight, taillight, and horn.
- Decorations shall not block, nor restrict the use of exhaust pipe, exits or entry points to vehicle.
- Decorative materials shall be noncombustible or flame retardant.
- Open flame devises are prohibited. The use of fuel fired torches, candles or similar devises which can ignite are prohibited.
- Decorations must be in line with the university student code of conduct.
