Of the approximately 15,000 students, 88% are from Kansas and the remainder are from every state and 84 foreign countries. Over 40% of students are first generation college students.

The Vice President for Student Affairs is the senior student affairs officer, and reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President. The position has overall responsibility for student life on the university campus. The Student Affairs division includes the Heskett Recreation Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Involvement, Child Development Center, Housing and Residence Life, Disability Services, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Rhatigan Student Center and Office of Special Programs. The division is also responsible for the $36 million statewide Kansas Kids @GEAR-UP grant.

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability for relevant student affairs units.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and to strategies that incorporate the valuable contributions of students, faculty and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A good sense of humor is expected.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative decision-making including experience with shared governance.

The preferred candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience with supervision of auxiliary unites, student unions/centers, and residence halls.
  • Experience working with or supervising federal grant programs.
  • Commitment to promoting a student-centered community and improving the quality of the student life experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with student retention.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing programming for a highly diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing co-curricular activities in collaboration with academic programs that support the academic mission of the university.
