Wichita State University Athletic Training Program Application Instructions

 Below are application instructions for admittance into the Pre-Professional Phase of the Athletic Training Program (ATP). Please follow these guidelines carefully for submission of all materials and the admittance process. For program questions prior to completing application process, call 978-3300, option 2, to schedule an appointment with Sheri Barnes.

  1.  Complete a letter of interest explaining why you want to pursue athletic training as a career choice. Email to Dr. Lindsay Luinstra at lindsay.luinstra@wichita.edu.
  2. Complete the program application here:
    • You will need to provide the names and email addresses for 3 individuals who are willing to submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf. These three individuals will complete a letter of recommendation about your personal attributes, class performance, job performance, etc… Please DO NOT submit a reference name for someone who does not know your abilities to work, study, or know your personal attributes (i.e. dependability, reliability, trustworthy, honesty, etc…..) or that is a family member.
  3. Your references will receive an email from Dr. Lindsay Luinstra with directions for submission of their recommendation letters.
  4. All materials must be received by May 1st to assure full consideration into the ATP for the next fall semester. Applications received after May 1st until July 15th will be reviewed only if the next beginning class in not full. Applications will not be accepted after July 15th for the upcoming academic year unless the next class has unclaimed seats available.
  5. The ATP will notify you about your program admittance status once all materials have been received and reviewed.
  6. It is your responsibility to follow up with the Dr. Luinstra regarding your application materials.
  7. Any questions about the ATP procedures, courses, clinical requirements, starting dates, etc… need to be directed to the Program Director, Dr. Rich Bomgardner at rich.bomgardner@wichita.edu.
  8. Freshmen: Complete pre-advising survey when you receive it after March 1st. Confirm course schedule within 2 weeks of receiving it or contact First-Year Advisors for questions. Transfer Students: It is imperative you visit with Sheri Barnes, Undergraduate Advisor. Please call 978-3300, option 2, to schedule an advising appointment after you have received your notification of acceptance to the pre-professional phase of the Athletic Training Program and are fully admitted to WSU.
