Do I have to become certified in both elementary and secondary physical education?
The State of Kansas requires you to become certified in both elementary and secondary
physical education. This requirement makes you more marketable to school districts.
Do I have to do a Teacher Work Sample for both my elementary and secondary student
teaching assignments?
Students must submit a Teacher Work Sample during their student teaching for initial
licensure in the State of Kansas. It is a performance-based assessment that allows
you to demonstrate your impact on student learning by describing a comprehensive unit
that you have taught. Student teachers with dual certification must only submit one
Teacher Work Sample. The Teacher Work Sample will be completed during the first student
teaching assignment. Students may choose whether they want to complete their Teacher
Work Sample at either the elementary or secondary level.
Where can I do my student teaching?
You will be assigned to the Wichita Public Schools or to the school districts immediately
surrounding Wichita. Special assignment requests outside this area must be submitted
to and approved by the College of Education. The student will pay extra fees to cover
the costs for student teaching supervision.
