About the Program
The Accelerated Bachelor's to Master’s in Special Education program at Wichita State University is a fully online accelerated admission pathway allowing students in the Teacher Apprentice ProgramTM to save both time and money while earning an undergraduate early childhood education/elementary education degree and a graduate special education degree. This pathway integrates a dual-credit structure that allows undergraduate students in TAP to begin graduate-level coursework during their final year(s) of their bachelor’s degree.
Admission Requirements
Current TAP Students
- Teacher Apprentice Program (TAP) students must schedule an academic advising appointment with their assigned TAP Academic Advisor and review the Accelerated Bachelors to Masters in SPED Checklist.
- Must apply to the accelerated program in low or high incidence concentration through
the Graduate School Application process. This includes submission of:
- Personal Statement
- Faculty Member Recommendation
- Students must have a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 to be eligible.
- An Accelerated Program Form must be submitted at the time of registration for courses that will carry dual credit.
Potential TAP Students
- Candidates must complete all TAP Admission Requirements prior to starting the Teacher Apprentice Program (TAP) Online Program.
- Once a candidate has been admitted to the TAP, they must schedule an academic advising appointment with their assigned TAP Academic Advisor and review the Accelerated Bachelors to Masters in SPED Checklist.
- Must apply to the accelerated program in low or high incidence concentration through
the Graduate School Application process. This includes submission of:

TAP Advisors
- Scheduling an appointment with your TAP Academic Advisor is required. Your TAP Advisor will assist you with:
- Reviewing your TAP Degree Plan
- Graduate courses for dual credit must be approved by both the undergraduate and graduate program advisors
- Identifying any necessary course updates
- Determining the anticipated semester for submitting your Graduate School Application
- Reviewing your TAP Degree Plan
Graduate Advisor
- As you begin your graduate-level coursework, your Graduate Academic Advisor will support
you by:
- Assisting with completion and submission of the Accelerated Program Form
- Answering questions related to the Graduate School Application
- Developing a tentative plan of study for your graduate program
Licensure Option
TAP Licensure Outcomes
- Licensure available to you after you've completed your bachelor's degree:
- Early Childhood Unified: Birth-3rd Grade (including SPED)
- Elementary Education: K-6th Grade (general education only)
- Early Childhood Unified AND Elementary Education: Birth-3rd Grade (SPED) and Birth-6th Grade (general education)
SPED Licensure Outcomes
- Licensure available to you after you've completed your master's degree:
- High Incidence: K-12th Grade
- Low Incidence: K-12th Grade
- Dual Endorsement (Low & High): K-12th Grade
