Wallace Scholarship & Competition

The Wallace engineering scholarship is made possible through the Dwane and Velma Wallace Endowment, created in 1976, which supports scholarships for engineering students and provides funds for the College of Engineering. Since 1980, the endowment has graduated over 350 engineering majors at WSU.

There are between 30 and 40 engineering students currently receiving the Wallace scholarship. They span all classes and most majors. While not an official student organization, they operate in a similar manner to one, with a Wallace Council that organizes activities for the group and ensures all members stay actively involved on campus and in the community.

The Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering (WISE) Competition began in 1976 with the award of 15 scholarships, $400 each, and has continued to grow; the competition now selects a minimum of 10 new recipients each year who each receive a 4-year total of $28,000. These recipients are presented at a reception each February. Recipients are selected based on their high school GPA, ACT math and composite scores, performance in a team-based project and written essay at the competition.
