CONSTITUTION
Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the Wichita State University Society of Public Historians (hereafter referred to as WSU-SPH)
Article II. Purpose
The purpose of WSU-SPH shall be to promote interest in the study and practice of public history. This includes, but not limited to local and community history, corporate history, archives, museums, private sector consulting, litigation support, and living history. WSU-SPH encourages research and practice in all of these areas.
Article III. Membership
Section 1. Membership shall be limited to regularly enrolled Wichita State University students, undergraduate or graduate, with an active interest in public history.
Section 2. Associate membership shall be open to all non-WSU students and working professionals within the various historical associations and businesses.
Section 3. Membership shall not be denied to any person because of age, race, sex, religion, handicap, or national origin.
Article IV. Officers
Section 1. President – the president shall be responsible for presiding at all meetings of WSU-SPH, establishing committees, and overseeing the actions of all other officers of WSU-SPH.
Section 2. Vice President
Section 3. Secretary – the secretary shall record the proceedings of all WSU-SPH meetings,
keep all records and books, membership lists, and addresses of all members. All correspondence
shall be the responsibility of the secretary. All books and papers shall be turned
over to successor.
Secretary will assume office of the President in case of impeachment, assassination
or resignation.
Section 4. Treasurer – the treasurer shall receive all money belonging to WSH-SPH and account for the same; pay all debts and retain all receipts; disclose financial reports at every meeting.
Section 5. Term of Office
The term of office is one year, from January 1 to December 31.
If elected officers graduate or are unable to complete term, then President will appoint to fill remainder of term.
Section 6. Elections
All officers shall be elected during the December meeting of WSU-SPH and assume their posts in January. Officers must be elected by a majority of the current WSU student membership present at the meeting.
Article V. Meetings
Section 1. Times and Dates
The regular meetings of WSU-SPH shall be held every third week of the month at Fiske Hall. These meetings will mainly center on business issues of WSU-SPH.
Section 2. Special Meetings
Special meetings such as field trips, guest speakers, workshops, and social activities etc., shall be designated as required.
Section 3. Quorum
Majority of members present.
Article VI. Amendments to the Constitution
Section 1. Amendments may be made to this constitution by a two-thirds vote of the quorum present at a meeting specifically convened for that purpose.
