Darrius Wright

Principal and Senior Research Analyst, Kansas Business Services, Wichita

Wright, a native of Wichita, Kansas, grew up in a family environment that supported entrepreneurship. His grandmother was a successful insurance agent. His mother has spent her much of her career assisting nonwhite businesses grow their enterprises. His father helped Darrius start his first business, a lawn care service when Darrius was a youngster. Darrius’s father also shared the following wisdom:

There’s three types of people in the world: people who dig ditches; people who design ditches; people who own ditches. You need all three. Your people [African Americans] have done a lot of ditch digging and have progressed to design ditches. We need more people like us [African Americans] who want to own the ditch and pay the persons who dig the ditch and design the ditch.

In this interview Darrius recounts his entrepreneurial career and comments upon Wichita as a place to do business. Wright’s Kansas Business Services, established in 2012, is his cornerstone business accomplishment. This firm has a goal of  "making millionaires" through the various business services it offers to its' small business clients.
