Hugo Wall School proudly announces that two students have been awarded scholarships from the Kansas Association of City/County Management (KACM). Luke Grimes received the Virgil Basgall Scholarship, and Nathan York received the KACM Scholarship.
Both Nathan and Luke are dedicated to serving Kansas communities. Luke currently serves as the city administrator of his hometown, the City of Ulysses, in Kansas. Luke’s passion for community development fuels his professional goal of championing high-quality community-building principles in rural Kansas, including his hometown of Ulysses.
Nathan has experience in IT services for the City of Wichita and as a management intern with the City of Derby. After graduating with his MPA, Nathan’s long-term aspirations involve continuing his work in state and local government right here in Kansas. He holds a strong appreciation for the opportunity to serve his community, and his experience in technology allows him to identify areas where service delivery can be improved or expedited.
This marks the third consecutive year that HWS has secured 2 of the 3 KACM scholarships, and for the second year in a row, a student from HWS has received the Basgall Scholarship. The KACM scholarships are awarded annually to graduate students interested in city/county management as a future career or those currently working in local government in Kansas with aspirations to become a city/county management professional. The goal of the scholarship program is to continue building and strengthening the local government management pipeline in Kansas.
KU, KSU, and WSU faculty nominate recipients for the Virgil Basgall and KACM scholarships for MPA students. The scholarships are awarded at the Spring Kansas City/County Management Conference.
