Research
Dr. Johns' main mathematical interests are summability, Fourier analysis, and the mathematics related to the design of active artificial limbs and sense organs. He also works on applying technology to teaching. He taught the first all-Internet class offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and he was instrumental in bringing to the campus the Tegrity hardware and software package for launching lectures on the Internet. He specializes in applying technology to creating and managing course materials and records, and to automating office routines. Typical tools are platforms such as Blackboard, test banks, electronic grade books, online testing and tutoring, filing software, macros, and Microsoft Visual Basic. He presents brief introductions to using technology in teaching to his teacher ed classes. In 2005 he received certificates of appreciation for service to WSU from Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius and WSU President Donald Beggs.
