With over 400 million people who speak Spanish in 21 countries, the ability to communicate in Spanish has become an important factor in the education of students in today's world. The Spanish-speaking population in the United States is the largest minority and fostering a bilingual generation of students will grant them a greater ability to communicate not only within their own country, but a good portion of the world.

Wichita State University offers a variety of Spanish classes such as translation and interpretation, linguistics, film, theatre, literature, and history - spanning a wide range of movements and time periods, granting students a broad knowledge of Spanish language and culture.

In addition, the Spanish Division has sponsored a number of cultural activities such as poetry readings, workshops, and guest speakers. There are a number of scholarships available to students wanting to pursue undergraduate studies in Spanish and those who choose to study abroad in WSU's program in Puebla, Mexico.
