The MSW Admissions Committee scores all applications according to objective criteria after the January 15 deadline.

  • Scoring is normally completed by first week of March
  • Applicants are notified by letter by April 1 (normally by mid-March)

The number of applicants offered admission will vary depending on the size and strength of the application pool and availability of program resources. Scored applications are ranked by overall score with top-ranked applicants offered admission.

Review and Scoring of Applications:

Applications are reviewed for compliance with the liberal arts background requirement, and scores are assigned to academic and non-academic factors:

Academic factors:

  • GPA over the last 60 hours of graded course work

Non-academic factors:

  • Experience, especially in social services, volunteer or paid
  • References
  • Personal statement

Indicators of readiness for graduate studies and suitability for the profession are drawn from descriptions of life experience, motivation, career goals, and values as described in the personal statement and references.

The scores for the various parts of the application are totaled to get an overall score. Applications are ranked by overall score to aid the MSW Admissions Committee in making decisions.
