Application to the MSW program

You must apply to both the Graduate School and the School of Social work.


Application to Graduate School

Graduate School application information and form can be found on the Graduate School website at www.wichita.edu/gradschool. Submit applications early to ensure that Graduate School receives all official transcripts before the December 15 deadline.

Graduate School application materials are submitted directly to the Graduate School.

(3) Official transcripts from all schools attended (even if you took only one class)

  • Official transcripts can be mailed directly to the Graduate School office.
  • Transcripts from students in sealed envelopes marked as official are also accepted.
  • Graduate School has access to WSU transcripts; you do not need to request transcripts from WSU.

Application to School of Social Work

MSW application materials are submitted directly to the School of Social Work. Email completed application form and personal statement to the administrative specialist for the School of Social Work at socialwork@wichita.edu. This email address goes directly to the administrative specialist. Email the reference form to your references and have them email the completed form to socialwork@wichita.edu. Emailed references and application forms do not require a signature.

  • Compose a self-reflective essay that demonstrates your interest and suitability for the MSW program and degree.
  • Double-spaced and in 12-point font; suggested length is 4–6 pages.
  • Include:
    • Personal and professional values/beliefs that have led you to consider the Master of Social Work
    • Special interests for a social work career
    • Experiences with people whose backgrounds differ from yours (culturally, ethnically, or in other ways)
    • Personal experiences which contribute to your choice of a social work career
    • Professional and/or social service experiences that contribute to your choice of a social work career at the master's level
  • Email essay to socialwork@wichita.edu.

(3) Three (3) references

  • Work/Professional Reference: A person who is acquainted with your work performance (paid or volunteer). If applying to the Advanced Standing program, this should be from a licensed social worker.
  • Academic Reference: A major advisor and/or professor in college. Substitute a second professional reference if you no longer have contact with academic references.
  • Personal Reference: A person who is acquainted with you outside the work and academic environment; not a family member or fellow student.

School of Social Work application can be submitted as a hard copy to the School of Social Work Office if you prefer. In that case, have your references return the reference in a sealed envelope with their signature across the seal. References can be returned to you to submit to the School of Social work or mailed directly to the School of Social Work Office.

MSW Application Forms

Contact the School of Social Work if you would prefer to receive printed application materials in the mail. They will need to be completed and scanned to upload to the application portal.
