The ADCI Final Friday Report: August 2018

It's the first Final Friday of the 2018-19 academic year, and Wichita's galleries are chockablock with the work of ADCI students, faculty and staff. Swing by the following venues to view the work of Wichita State artists during the monthly Final Friday Gallery Crawl:

Visiting artist Nestor Siré worked with ADCI students and faculty to present his latest exhibition, “Bien_Común Commons" at WSU ShiftSpace. The exhibit explores Cuba's informal economy by documenting Havana's Street Net, which connects gamers and other community members through a hybrid mesh network supported by homemade routers.

The exhibition includes an example of a router built from everyday materials. “Bien_Común Commons" is curated in collaboration with Claudia Pederson, assistant professor of art history in new media & technology. Students Hugo Zelada, Carter Bryant, Lexi Wirths, Emiliano Molina, Dale Small, Megan Gall, Robert Bailey and Monika Maddux; faculty members Jennifer Ray, Levente Sulyok, Jeff Pulaski; and College of Fine Arts Assistant Dean Wendy Hanes and Dean Rodney Miller assisted with the project. 6-10 p.m. at ShiftSpace, 416 S. Elsewhere on Commerce Street: Dock 410 presents "Someday Famous" by ADCI student Caitlin Sader. 6-9 p.m. at Dock 410, 410 S. Commerce St.

ADCI alumnus Sean Christopher Ward and Aaron Patton collaborated on "Amalgamation," a show combining Ward's op art paintings and digital illustrations with Patton's photography sillouhettes. All works in the exhibition will be sold by silent auction. 6-10 p.m. at Vanya Designs, 520 S. Commerce St.

You have one more change to see work by alumnus Tim Stone at the Hue Gallery for Contemporary Art: "Jane Boyd, Tim Stone and Lindy Wiese."  Stone was recently featured on the series Artists in Their Space, which is produced by the Hutchinson Arts Center and airs on KPTS Channel 8. 6-10 p.m. at the Hue Gallery for Contemporary Art, 430 S. Commerce St.

Gary Lincoln, lecturer in ceramics media, presents "On and off the Wall" in the CityArts Boardroom Gallery (second floor). "Domestic Morning" by alumnus Jack Wilson (BFA drawing and painting, MFA printmaking) is on view in the Main Hall Gallery. The gallery at Studio School is showing "Vacated" by ADCI Lecturer Amanda Pfister. The photographic series, shot with a large-format camera from 2008-2010, explores closed car dealerships, factories, schools and a dead mall that no longer exists. 5-10 p.m. at Studio School, 751 George Washington Blvd

"With Strings Attached," on view at Reverie Roasters—Cafe at the Kiva, is the work of ADCI student Caroline Ragatz. This series of embroidered photographs taken with a 35 mm film camera explores the idea of finding your "sacred spaces." 6-8 p.m. at Reverie Roasters—Cafe at the Kiva, 220 W. Douglas Ave.

ADCI student Julian Kincaid invites to both look at and feel the multimedia works in "An Infinite Amount of Bedrooms" at 86 Cold Press. 6-9 p.m. at 86 Cold Press, 600 E. Douglas Ave.
