Every Final Friday, Wichita art lovers flock to galleries to view new work, much of which is produced by talented students, faculty and alumni from the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries. Don't miss the work of these Shocker artists on Final Friday, July 28:
ShiftSpace, Wichita State’s student art gallery located in the Commerce Street Arts District, presents "Nixed," an undergraduate group show curated by ADCI student Carter Bryant. "Nixed" explores the concept of identity from the perspective of the “other” and features work by College of Fine Arts students Emiliano Molina, England Smith, Jaci Ignudo, Carter Bryant, Lindsay Lord and Bryan Raymundo. 6-10 p.m. at ShiftSpace, 416 S. Commerce St., Suite 102
CityArts features the work of ADCI alum Mike Miller in its main gallery. "The Earth Is a Rock" explores the idea that everything is a machine, whether made by humans or nature. Miller is known for his kinetic sculptures, variously powered by motor and gears, hand cranks, the wind, or kids playing on a swing set. Visitors to campus can view Miller's sculpture "Machine-Nature Interface 14 (Wind Maker)," which is located next to Shocker Hall.
You’ll find the invitational show "Bibs & Forks 2: Concession Edition," upstairs in the CityArts Boardroom Gallery. The show includes work by 20 artists, including alumni Connie Bonfy, Mika Holtzinger, Genna Pennington, Erin Raux, Hannah Scott and Jim Simpson, as well as Art & Design Advocates board member Denise Irwin. 6-8 p.m. at CityArts, 334 N. Mead St.
The Fiber Studio presents "2X Many=25," a group show including the work of alumni Charles Baughman, Doug Billings, Susan de Wit, Laura Nave and Martha Wherry, as well as faculty member Gary Lincoln, professor emeritus Clark Britton and Art & Design Advocates board member Denise Irwin. Curt Clonts reviewed the show for KMUW. 6-10 p.m. at The Fiber Studio, 418 S. Commerce St.
Paintings by alum Tim Stone are on view at the Hue Gallery for Contemporary Art: "Jane Boyd, Tim Stone and Lindy Wiese." Recently Stone was featured on the series Artists in Their Space, which is produced by the Hutchinson Arts Center and airs on KPTS. 6-10 p.m. at the Hue Gallery for Contemporary Art, 430 S. Commerce St.
It’s a family affair at Gallery Old Town, which presents "Familial Iconoclasm in Art Perspective, Part II: the Next Generation." The show includes work by ADCI students Monika Stockton Maddux and Jarrod Maddux alongside work by Cevin Stockton. 7-10 p.m. at Gallery Old Town, 151 N. Rock Island
