My 2025 Audio Engineering Society Convention Journey

Hello, my name is Carlos Sosa. I’m a senior studying Audio Production here at Wichita State University! I had the amazing opportunity to attend the 2025 Audio Engineering Society Conference, or AES for short. The AES convention consists of a variety of guest speakers covering topics such as Modern Recording Technology with AI integration and Production as an art form. I decided to apply last year because I knew it would help me grow as a professional and expand my professional network. I truly enjoyed my time at the AES convention because it opened my eyes to new opportunities, new technologies, and reignited my passion for music production and collaboration with other musicians.

I’d recommend this opportunity to any aspiring music producers, recordists, and audio engineers because this is a place where you can ask all your questions and find someone with answers. I would say that my favorite moment at the conference was speaking with Christian Amonson, the director of Classical Recording at the University of Southern California, and then getting the chance to record there! Overall, the trip was amazing, but two moments stood out to me. My favorite highlight outside of the convention was speaking with industry recording engineer Sean Matsukawa, who has worked with Vince Staples, Kendrick Lamar, and SZA. Another major highlight was visiting the historic and legendary studio EastWest and the Walt Disney Soundstage!

Next year, AES will be in Nashville. Who knows which artists you might run into there? Don’t miss out on your opportunity to apply! Thanks for reading!
