
Maham Waqar is a filmmaker, musician and educator whose work combines cinematic storytelling
with social impact. She earned her MFA in Digital Media & Design (filmmaking concentration)
from the University of Connecticut, where she mentored students through hands-on production
and post-production workflows.
With more than seven years of professional filmmaking experience, Maham has worked
across narrative film, documentary, music videos, commercial media, and digital content
production. Her practice is rooted in research-driven storytelling, exploring issues
such as child protection, women’s rights, gender equity, mental health, caste-based
discrimination, and social justice in South Asia. She is known for taking on challenging
and often underrepresented subjects, using film as a tool for awareness, empathy,
and change.
Maham writes, directs, produces, shoots, edits, designs sound, and frequently acts
in her own projects. Her recent films include Gulab, a narrative short examining child
exploitation in Pakistan, and Shifa, a film exploring caste-based marriage restrictions,
spiritual abuse, and mental health.
Alongside her filmmaking career, Maham is an accomplished musician whose work has
reached millions of viewers and listeners worldwide. Her music video Duaa has surpassed
150+ million views on YouTube, while her original songs, including Bahanay and Do
Ghariyan, showcase her multidisciplinary approach as a songwriter, performer, director,
and visual storyteller. Her work has been featured on major digital platforms, helping
build an international audience across film and music.
