Hello!

The Wichita State Percussion Studio boasts a 40-year legacy of producing outstanding professionals, performers, and educators alike. Our alumni are a virtual who’s who representing all fields of percussion.

The WSU Percussion Studio consists of about 16-20 majors and non-majors studying at the undergraduate and graduate level. We are a diverse, vibrant, and talented community of musicians with interests spanning from orchestral, band, and jazz; music education, composition, and conducting; and even traditional Latin Percussion and Steel Band.

On and off campus, our students engage in a variety of community service projects including: high school and middle school demonstrations, working with Central Kansas Boys and Girls Club, and steel band benefit performances. One such benefit featured members of the WSU Steel Band welcoming President George W. Bush to Wichita with the first ever rendition of “Hail to the Chief” by a steel band.

Percussion students at WSU engage in a comprehensive program, learning a broad range of instruments, including multi-percussion, mallet keyboards, snare drum, timpani, orchestral percussion, world percussion, and drum set, doing so through solo repertoire, chamber repertoire, and large-ensemble playing.
