Placement Information

For WSU students majoring in music, the placement process is required unless they have already been placed and received communication from Dr. Ryan Beeken, the Director of Choral Activities. The choral faculty will determine the suitable large ensemble for all voice majors. 

Non-music major students, at WSU, have the option to participate in either WuChoir or ShockerChoir without having to go through the placement process. However, if non-majors wish to be considered for Concert Chorale or Madrigal Singers, they will need to complete the placement process.

All students have the opportunity to apply for placement in any ensemble. 

Placement Instructions:

Please prepare measures 88 through 106 of Brian Harris’s The Poet and His Song. It is bracketed with a yellow highlight. Select the voice part most appropriate. Your recording should include only your voice singing your part; you may use whatever tools you have available to assist you. Upload to YouTube or share via Google Drive. Please ensure viewing permissions are set to anyone with the link.

We have also included a MIDI file of the piano accompaniment. Please note that the recording begins at mm. 83.
