Welcome!

Performance is at the heart of the learning experience. Long recognized as a leader in Opera Performance and Education, Wichita State University Opera Theater seeks to develop young artists to be effective communicators of the vocal art in a well-rounded and supportive environment.

Student skills and talents are nourished and polished via outstanding individual instruction, multiple fully staged productions, concert operas, and scenes programs. Most WSU opera performances are presented with orchestra and in the original language. Students also study the history and style of opera as well learn acting skills through classes and applied learning. Students participate in master classes and perform in multiple presentations throughout South Central, Kansas—propelling them towards their next steps as young artists on many of the fines stages in the world.

WSU Opera Theater graduates include Samuel Ramey, Joyce DiDonato, Alan Held, Barbara Honn, and many of today's rising talents who are currently employed in young artist programs and on the professional stage.
