What is a titer?

A titer is a blood test that shows if you have immunity to a specific disease (such as measles or hepatitis B). A positive titer means you are protected and may not need additional vaccines. Most clinics can perform a titer blood test.

Can I attend clinical if I followed all the rules but am not cleared?

No. You must be fully cleared in Project Concert before attending clinical. Even if all items are completed, you cannot attend until they are reviewed and approved.

If I know my background check will have a flag, is there someone I can talk to?

Yes. Contact the School of Nursing as early as possible for guidance. Clinical placement decisions are made by clinical facilities, not the school.

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccination?

COVID-19 vaccination requirements are determined by clinical facilities and may change. You will be notified through your @shockers.wichita.edu email if it is required.

Can I opt out of requirements for religious or medical reasons?

Some exemptions may be considered depending on the requirement and clinical facility policies. Students cannot opt out of all requirements. Exemptions may limit your ability to attend clinical and could delay program progression.

To inquire about exemptions, email nursing.undergraduate@wichita.edu.

When would I be required to repeat a urine drug test?

You may be required to repeat a drug test at any time if requested by a clinical facility. Additional testing is at the student’s expense.

When would I be required to repeat a background check?

Background checks may be repeated as required by clinical facilities or after a break in enrollment. Additional checks may be necessary to maintain clinical eligibility.

How do I know if I am cleared?

Check your status in Project Concert. Requirements will show as approved once reviewed. You are only cleared for clinical when all requirements are approved.

What will clinical requirements cost?

Costs for immunizations and physical exams vary based on insurance, self-pay, and clinic pricing. The estimated cost for a background check, urine screen, medical documentation review, OSHA, and HIPAA is approximately $170 per student, plus $166 per year for Project Concert.

A full cost breakdown is available on the Programs Cost of Attendance webpage.
