Honors Hour April 30 information

Don't Miss Honors Hour Today at 11 a.m.

The last Honors Hour of the semester will cover both networking and volunteering in a virtual environment.

Audra Dinell from The Thread, a women's leadership collective, will offer her best advice on networking. Ella Perkins from Community Service Board, a WSU student organization, will speak about volunteering and finding opportunities on VolunteerICT.

Every student who attends will be entered into a drawing for Honors swag. One winner will be randomly selected at the end of the event.

Today is the Final Day to Apply for the Honors College Student Council 2021-2022

Being on the Honors Student Council gives you the special opportunity to identify and address the challenges and needs of all Honors students. You serve as the voice of students through communication with the staff, faculty, and Dean of the Cohen Honors College. During your term, you will discover your strengths and the strengths of your peers. If this intrigues you, you can read more about the Council by clicking here.

If you're unaware of what the Council has done recently, you should know that the Council assisted with changing the Honors College application requirements, awarding fee scholarships, hosting extended lounge hours, and other key initiatives in the Honors College.

Submit Nominations for the Faculty Mentor Award!

This award sponsored by the college each year recognizes a faculty mentor to Honors students inside or outside of the classroom. Prior winners are not eligible for this award.

Student members of the Honors community are invited to nominate a faculty mentor with a statement describing in detail what qualifies the faculty member for this award. These mentors could include faculty teaching Honors courses, teaching Honors option contract courses, or mentoring undergraduate research/applied learning.

Click here to submit a nomination. The nomination form will close Monday, May 3rd at 11:59 p.m. Then, the Honors College Student Council will vote to make the final award decision.


Mark Your Calendar for this Honors College Faculty Council Event

The Honors Faculty Fellows Presentation & Discussion will be held on Thursday, May 13, from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. This year’s Honors Faculty Fellows will present updates on their projects. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and suggest ideas for future faculty fellows. Click here for the Zoom link.

Attention Graduates - You're Invited to Donuts, Coffee, & Kudos!

Students graduating with an Honors distinction, their families, and faculty are invited to celebrate graduation with Honors. Stop by the Honors College Lounge in Shocker Hall on Friday, May 14, anytime from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. to enjoy donuts and coffee while viewing the graduate recognition slideshow.

Information about HNRS 305X course in Fall 2021

Speaking Spanish in the U.S. Will Be Offered This Fall

You do not have to be a Spanish speaker to take this course. This course...

  • Fulfills the HNRS General Education or a directed elective requirement for the Emory Lindquist Honors Scholar Track.
  • Fulfills a Humanities General Education requirement – with a few restrictions, so you should talk to an advisor to find out how this works with your degree plan.
  • Counts toward a Spanish major or minor when one of the primary course assignments is completed in Spanish and depending on the coursework you have already completed. Contact julie.henderson@wichita.edu to explore how it can work for you.

Fall 2021 Honors Courses Are Filling Up Quickly, so Enroll Now!

How to find all Honors courses that will be offered in Fall 2021:
Log into your myWSU account. Click on the myClasses tab. Find the yellow box titled Registration Tools on the right side. In that box, click on Student Registration (Banner 9). On the right side, click on Browse Class Schedule by Term. Select Fall 2021. Click the continue button. Find the search criteria titled Attribute (Gen Ed, SI, etc.). Type in Honors and select Honors Program Course. Click the search button.


Take a Survey about Online Schooling during COVID-19

Students in HNRS 486 are conducting research about the effects of online schooling during COVID-19 on student engagement and post-graduation plans. The findings of this study can help universities and instructors better support students in online classes, as well as, support all students as they gradually integrate into more in-person classes.

Any WSU student that is older than 18 years of age is eligible to participate. Participation will take about 5-10 minutes. Click here to take the survey.
