Be Sure to RSVP for the Honors General Assembly, SGA Meet & Greet, and Cookout!

Founding student members of the Honors College included the annual Honors General Assembly in the bylaws to ensure that students and faculty had at least one open forum for information and feedback each year.

This year, we invite the Honors community to meet and eat together on Thursday, April 22, from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. on the Shocker Hall East Patio! The event will begin with college updates from the Dean, as well as, a meet and greet with the Honors Senators in the Student Government Association. Afterwards, pre-packaged food will be served.

Click here to RSVP yes or no for this event so we have an accurate count for the food order. The RSVP deadline is next Friday, April 16.

At the event, aim to keep each other safe through practicing social distancing and wearing masks when not eating or drinking.

Join Us for the End of Year Honors Hangout!

The virtual hangout will be on Friday, April 23, from 3 - 5 p.m. Compete for Honors House points and find out which House has earned the most points this year! RSVP here.

Apply to Serve on the Honors College Student Council

Applications to serve on the Cohen Honors College Student Council 2021-2022 are open! We are looking for students who want to develop as leaders and improve the Honors community.
Click here to apply. The deadline is Friday, April 30.

What does it mean to be a leader in Honors? We have leaders in our labs, classroom, student organizations, and governance. Being a leader in Honors means working to discover your strengths and the strengths of others. Leadership sometimes means standing at the front of the room, but it sometimes means asking a thoughtful question or inviting someone else to speak. It means listening, observing, figuring out what are the greatest needs, and working independently or collaboratively to meet those needs.

What does the student council do? The Council activities change every year, but the mission is the same: The Honors Student Council aims to develop a strong sense of community and common identity among Honors students by providing opportunities and serving as a refuge to all students of the Cohen Honors College. The Council uses innovative approaches to identify and address the challenges and needs of all Honors students and serves as the voice of students through communication with the staff, faculty, and Dean of the Cohen Honors College.

But what have they done lately? Recent initiatives led by the Council include: changing Honors admissions messaging and application requirements, hosting Honors Hours and extended lounge hours, awarding fee scholarships, and recommending a security camera in the lounge area.

For information about current Council members, click here. The Student Council typically meets every Thursday 5 - 6 p.m. by Zoom and meets at least twice a year with the Faculty Council. To bring an idea or concern to the current Student Council, email honorsassistant@wichita.edu.

Mark Your Calendar for this Honors College Faculty Council Event
