Proposals Due Monday for the 2022 National Collegiate Honors Council Conference

Proposals are now being accepted for the 2022 National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Annual Conference, being held in-person at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas. The conference theme is "Centering Community." Click here to read the proposal guidelines and submit yours. Wondering what proposal type best fits your research? Download the Proposal Type Guide to help you choose! The deadline is February 28th.

Note: The Wichita State membership in NCHC is current through 12/31/2022. Students and faculty should indicate their WSU affiliation when submitting proposals.


Honors Student Fee Scholarship Application Due Tuesday

The Honors College Student Council has instituted a scholarship fund to alleviate any financial burden placed on students by the Honors student fee. The application contains a 250 word essay. Applications are evaluated by the Student Council. If selected, this scholarship will cover half of the applicant's $50 Honors student fee for the Spring 2022 semester. Preference will be given to applicants who do not receive the Honors Merit Scholarship. Applicants will need to reapply every semester.

Honors Seeking Summer Research Institute (SRI) in First-Year Research Experience (FYRE) Peer Mentors

SRI in FYRE will be hosted on the WSU main campus from June 5th – 9th. SRI Peer Mentors will assist with camp preparation during the months of April and May. They will serve as mentors, lead team building activities, help an incoming fellow Shocker transition into college life, participate in research alongside the campers, and assist the SRI team with other activities the week of the camp.

If you have an interest in research, enjoy helping students explore their interests in research, and are looking for a short-term paid position, please apply here. The deadline to apply is March 11th.


Volunteer for the 2022 Great Plains Honors Council Conference

Honors students are encouraged to volunteer for the 2022 Great Plains Honors Council Conference  happening March 18th – 20th. This is a great opportunity to meet students/faculty/staff from WSU and other educational institutions! Sign up here.

Postcards to Incoming Honors Students

The Honors Student Council and Honors Ambassadors have been writing personalized postcards to welcome the Fall 2022 students into our community. The main intent of this project is to get to know new students, allow them to get to know current students, and start building relationships! If you would like to assist with similar projects in the future, please contact honorsassistant@wichita.edu.


Attending Office Hours Can Help You Succeed

Want to talk about a topic from class, have questions about your professor’s field or about research options? Just drop by during the office (student) hours your professor has listed or contact your professor to schedule an appointment. Office hours are specific times set aside outside of classes to see and help students. Your professors are resources for your academic success! If you are particularly interested in a topic in class or struggling to understand something, let your professor know! Tips for talking to professors can be found here.
