New! Honors Colloquium Required for Incoming Honors Students
A new zero-credit Honors Colloquium (that’s Latin for “dialogue”) is required for all incoming honors students. Students learn about honors resources and requirements and engage in activities designed to develop scholarly identity and community.

Cohen Enhancement Scholars visit London & Dublin
Several Cohen Honors students joined the summer travel seminar led by Dr. Fran Connor and Dr. Kate Lanning, faculty in the Department of English in the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. They navigated culture, landscape, and architecture and built community during their time in London and Dublin from the Globe Theater to Sherlock Holmes to Soho and beyond.
Dorothy and Bill Cohen Enhancement Scholarships provided funding for their travel.
Leadership Academy Students Serve and Learn in Maine
This year’s Lead for Tomorrow: Cohen Honors Leadership Academy students and faculty traveled to Portland, Maine as part of a Place-As-Text experience related to the course theme of “Connected Leadership: Creating a Community of Leaders.”
In the first part of the course, local Wichita non-profit organizations First Tee Greater Wichita and ICT Food Rescue presented challenges to LFT student teams, and the five faculty thought leaders introduced methodologies from their fields including skills and tools from Design Thinking, Organizational Leadership, Psychology, and Industrial Engineering. Student then volunteered with similar nonprofit organizations during the May immersive travel experience.
The course culminates in the student teams presenting proposed solutions to the Executive Directors of the local organizations.

- HNRS 306I Aging as a Societal Issue: OK Boomer& Beyond (CRN 14584) | M/W 9:30-10:45am: Explore current research and social implications of the transformation of the US into an aging society. Course enrolls honors students and senior auditors to engage in dialogue.
Explore Locally and Globally in Honors Political Science courses
- WSUN 102E First-Year-Seminar, Me and My Place in the World (CRN 14437) | M/W 9:30am-12:00pm, meets for 8 weeks Aug 21 to Oct 11: Explore your story and engage with others who have different stories. Examine shared interests and concerns about issues facing the world today. Consider how to make a difference locally and globally. Consider pairing this course with COMM 111H or POLS 337H meeting in the 2nd 8 weeks.
- POLS 121H American Politics (CRN 16947) |T/R9:30-10:45am: Analyze the basic patterns and structure of the American political system emphasizing policies and problems of American politics.
- POLS 337H Conflict Analysis (CRN 16778) | M/W 9:30am-12:00pm, meets for 8 weeks Oct 12 to Dec 7: Explore the causes of war on three different levels of analysis: international, domestic and individual. Examine historical conflicts as well as more recent wars, and the diplomatic efforts that have been made to achieve lasting peace settlements.
- POLS 352H Law and Political Power (CRN 16780)| M/W 11:00am-12:15pm: Focus on the growth of government power inthe United States, with an emphasis on the decisions of the Supreme Court andother interpretations of the Constitution. Subjects examined may includeeconomic regulation, federalism and states' rights, separation of powers, and war powers.

The Honors College at the University of Arkansas welcomes you to the 8th Annual National Society for Minorities in Honors Conference, which will take place on the U of A campus between October 25-27,2023.
As honors programs seek to become more inclusive and diversify their student populations, new initiatives, programs and courses have evolved. However, many programs continue to fall short of that aspiration. Honors programs have an opportunity to transform how we engage with students from diverse backgrounds, and, along the way, impact change across the campus community.
