Outstanding Cohen Honors Student Award 2022

Jadie Chauncey (she/her) is a graduating senior pursuing both a Bachelors of Social Work and an Honors Baccalaureate. During her time at WSU, she has been involved in the Honors College through ambassadors, First-Year Honors Advisory Board, Student Council, and working as a student assistant. Outside of Honors, Jadie has been involved in Student Government Association and multiple student organizations on campus. After graduation, Jadie plans to attend graduate school to further study social work and other social sciences.

A square yellow graphic featuring the 2022 Honors Faculty Mentor. "Dr. Visvakumar Aravinthan" is printed in bold black text at the top of the graphic, followed by "Cohen Honors Faculty Mentor 2022" underneath in black. A rectangular photo of Dr. Aravinthan is placed in the center of the graphic. Below the photo, black text reads: "Interim Chair and Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ward Jewell Evergy Faculty Fellow."

Cohen Honors Faculty Mentor Award 2022

“Dr. Visvakumar Aravinthan has been my undergraduate research mentor since Fall 2021. One of the most remarkable things about my research experience with Dr. Ara is that he found me – I did not find him. Dr. Ara reached out to me on LinkedIn about scholarships for undergraduates in electrical engineering...Within a few weeks, I was a member of his research team. I am only a sophomore, but Dr. Ara was more than willing to teach me. He has invested a lot of time in helping me understand the details of power systems and the research methods he uses. But his mentoring extends beyond research...Already Dr. Ara has connected me to a Wichita IEEE undergraduate poster contest, enabled me to co-author an IEEE paper, arranged multiple opportunities for me to present my work, and helped me create a poster for the IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting in July. Working in Dr. Ara’s lab has been one of the most meaningful applied learning experiences I have had at Wichita State, and truly embodies the Honors College mantra of more meaningful work.”
