The National Collegiate Honors Council is wrapping up its virtual 55th Annual Conference as a reimagined virtual experience bringing together students, faculty and staff from across the country. This year’s theme “Big Hearts, Big Minds” asks questions about the role of compassion and empathy in the academy with the goals of enacting equity and inclusivity in our programs, courses, and institutions. Dr. Chelsea Redger-Marquardt presented a session entitled “Expanded Horizons: Preparing to Serve through an Honors Course and Immersive Service-Learning Trip” as part of this year’s conference. The session discussed qualitative research related to student sensemaking in service-learning through an honors course related to diversity learning and understanding dominant narratives. The Annual Conference takes place each Fall semester and offers opportunities to share research and best practices through presentations, poster sessions, roundtables and keynote speakers. Congrats to all the scholars around the country contributing knowledge and insights at this year’s conference.

Camp War Eagle is Looking for Camp Counselors for Summer 2021!

Camp War Eagle is a Christian sports and adventure camp for children and teens ages 7-17 in Northwest Arkansas. Its primary mission is to serve kids with socially, economically, and culturally diverse backgrounds in our area, with a special focus on kids from underserved backgrounds.

Camp War Eagle will be on campus November 9-11 recruiting potential staff members who love kids and really want to make a difference in a child’s life during the summer, while getting paid at the same time. It is located on Beaver Lake in Rogers, AR, about 4 1/2 hours from Wichita. Camp War Eagle hires around 25 Wichita State University staff each summer and would love more students from the Honors College. You could receive hours towards an internship, if that is something needed for your major!
