Volunteer Opportunities

STEM Student Volunteers Needed for Middle School Girls’ Science Workshops November 3rd

WSU will be hosting the 6th annual Expanding Your Horizons event on Saturday, November 3rd. Several volunteers (preferably STEM majors) are needed for the whole day (8 am to 2 pm). You will be responsible for helping to “sort” and “escort” the 200 middle school girls to/from workshops on campus.  You will assist with a hands-on STEM workshop (no experience needed) and share your excitement for science with these young ladies.  All volunteers receive a T-shirt and free lunch at Shocker Hall!

Spook the Halls

Warning! This Halloween, the CDS team is going to ”Spook the Halls” on Thursday imageOctober 25. We will have little friends from the Wichita Community coming to have a guided trick-or-treating event through the residence halls.

Attend the Kansas Service and Civic Engagement Conference

Join fellow civic-minded students to share your on-campus service learning and civic engagement experiences and learn more about what other students have done. This conference will give you insight into how students in the Kansas region are making a difference in their communities and allow you to network with students and faculty on ways to enact change.

At this conference, you will:

  • Get ideas for new avenues of service
  • Learn how to engage civically in more effective ways
  • Have opportunities to share your service and civic engagement experiences with others
  • Connect with other service and civic-minded students and organizations from the Kansas City metropolitan area and across the state of Kansas
  • Reflect on your experiences for further insight into your values and mindset

Leadershape: Learn to Lead with Integrity

 WSU is hosting our second session of LeaderShape, a 6 day experience that challenges participant to lead with integrity. LeaderShape will be held at Rock Springs 4-H Center in Junction City, KS from January 13 – 18, 2018.

WSU gets $813,000 grant to boost minority STEM enrollment

Wichita State University has been awarded $813,000 to boost enrollment and retention of students under-represented in science, technology, engineering and math. The funds are part of a larger $3 million, five-year National Science Foundation grant awarded to Kansas State University, which is sharing grant funds with a statewide coalition of universities and community colleges. More about KS-LSAMP
