Cohen Honors Student Max Gosch Records Historical Evidence

Dr. Matt Howland, MA student Doug Kressly, and undergraduate students MJ Jacobs and Max Gosch visited Planeview Park in Southeast Wichita on Tuesday this week for a UAV survey investigating the archaeological remains of the historic neighborhood that once stood on the site. By taking hundreds of aerial photographs and stitching them together into a 3D model, the group was able to record evidence of historic features at the site and supplement the recent cultural resource management survey conducted at the site, directed by Dr. Crystal Dozier, Department of Anthropology.

Join Honors for a Fall Pause: Cookies and Cocoa | Friday, Oct 27

Take a study break and join us in the Cohen Honors College for some cookies and cocoa. Drop by between 3pm-4pm on Friday, October 27 at the Honors College located in Shocker Hall Building A for a warm beverage and a sweet treat before you head into the weekend. Cookies, cocoa, hot tea, and coffee will be available.

BILL'S Trip - Location Announcement - Applications Open! | Nov 15

We are headed to the Grand Canyon! This year BILL’S Trip (Building Investment in Lifelong Leadership & Service) has partnered with Grand Canyon National Park for a week (January 6-13, 2024) of service-learning, exploring stewardship and servant leadership in partnership with the National Park Service. Named in honor of Bill Cohen, Bill’s Trip is an academic service-learning experience in which students travel to a selected National Park Service unit and spend the week serving and learning about the National Parks. Students will enroll in HNRS398J-Leading Through Serving (1 credit or 3 credit option). All student travel is funded through a generous gift in honor of Bill Cohen. Students will only be responsible for course tuition. We have also expanded our capacity for this program and are excited to have space for even more awesome Honors students!

Applications are currently open and due Wednesday, November 15.

Interest in Seeing the Film "Killers of the Flower Moon"? | Nov 15

The Cohen Honors College is sponsoring a film screening of the film “Killers of the Flower Moon” for Native American Heritage month in November.

“At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Paraguay Honors Service-Learning Study Abroad Program | Nov 17

Come study abroad in Asuncion, Paraguay with other Honors Students and WSU faculty! Students will have the chance to learn about Paraguayan Culture and South American Culture through observation.
The application deadline is November 17, 2023.

The Honors Education at Research Universities (HERU) conference “Dialogue, Debate, and Discourse: Having the Hard Conversations” takes place at the University of Kentucky May 20-22, 2024.

Proposals for papers and panels due December 1
Decisions will be made by mid-January 2024

Who: Keith Pickus
This course provides students an opportunity to study the historical context of contemporary events around the world. This subject matter is derived completely from current online news sources. Dive deeper into these stories and develop an understanding of both historical and current events.

Survey of Leadership | HNRS 351 | CRN 23723
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:00-3:15
Who: Dr. Chelsea Redger-Marquardt
The main leadership theories and a history of leadership thought are presented, leadership perspectives are debated, and examples of leadership in various contexts are discussed. After completing the seminar students should be able to recognize the main leadership theories, identify different leadership perspectives, recognize applications of leadership, and understand the benefits and challenges of leadership.
