Honors Induction With Special Guest: Dorothy Cohen | Sept 23
Honors Induction for new honors students will take place Saturday, September 23rd in Wiedemann Hall at 12:30pm with an open house reception in the Cohen Honors College Shocker Hall Building A at 1:30pm during Family Weekend. No RSVP required.
Paraguay Honors Study Abroad Program Informational Meeting | Sept 28
There will be an informational meeting for the Paraguay Honors Service-Learning Study Abroad Program on Thursday, September 28 at 4pm in RSC 007 right next to the Shocker Bowling Office. The meeting will cover information for studying abroad in summer 2024 and scholarship opportunities.
Virtual Recruitment Event | Sept 30
On Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 9:00am to 10:30am, the Office of Undergraduate
Admissions and the Cohen Honors College will be hosting a virtual recruitment event.
Prospective students will hear from recent alumni and learn about Cohen Honors opportunities
and upcoming scholarship deadlines.

Criminal Justice Student Association | Oct 4
The Criminal Justice Student Association (CJSA) is a student organization that strives to promote academic awareness of Criminal Justice students, Pre-Law students, and students interested in related academic fields of study; assist in the networking of information related to Criminal Justice career opportunities; organize education experiences (trips, lectures, tours, etc.) to enhance knowledge of the Criminal Justice field; participate in career, academic and social activities; and establish and maintain a professional and socially favorable rapport with fellow association members, department staff, campus staff, fellow students, and community members.
CJSA holds general meetings on the first Wednesday of each month and panelist meetings on the third Wednesday. Meetings are held at the Law Enforcement Training Center here on the main campus at 12:30 p.m.

Michael Tilford Conference on Diversity and Multiculturalism | Oct 6 at Washburn University
he Michael Tilford Conference provides an opportunity for those involved in education, in collaboration with community business leaders, to examine diversity in education and business by discussing the challenges and opportunities including:
- Inspire awareness of multiple dimensions of diversity, related practices of inclusion, and the transformation of education.
- Participate in workshops to learn about challenges and strategies for teaching diverse populations on campuses and in classrooms.
- Share your passion for teaching and interacting with students from all backgrounds.
- Reinforce the integration of multiple dimensions of diversity into student academic and personal development components.
- Explore how these strategies and practices translate into our businesses and broader communities.
Students interested in carpooling and attending the Tilford Conference will be reimbursed
for mileage.

FYRE | Oct 10
The First Year Research Experience ((FYRE) is open to new WSU students from all majors.
Through a competitive application process students are matched with ongoing research
projects led by WSU professors in numerous STEM disciplines. Selected students will
participate in active laboratory research for 8-10 hours per week, culminating in
a poster presentation about their work.
The FYRE applications are due October 10th with interviews and selection occurring in November. Students earn 3 hours of Honors
credit and a letter grade for successful completion of FYRE in the Spring 2024 semester. FYRE in STEM Student Application

Interested in studying abroad? The Paraguay Honors Service-Learning Study Abroad Program is offering a two week summer program to study in Paraguay. The deadline to apply is November 17, 2023.

Goats Go to Class? Environmental Stewardship in the Honors Parks Course
Cohen Honors students in Dr. Chelsea's Parks, People, Place: Exploring Our National Parks class visited the goats on campus this week. The innovative use of goats for land
management provided great context for this week's class projects focused on environmental
stewardship. The Parks course explores leadership and stewardship in the national parks learning from National Park
Ranger virtual presentations, hands-on projects, and small group discussion.

Cohen Honors Colloquium Students Create Community
This week, 136 new Cohen Honors students gathered for the Honors Colloquium. In addition
to learning about research and design-thinking opportunities on campus, creating chaos
with paper airplanes, and meeting current Honors students, they painted Turquoise
Tables to create a community space open to everyone in the front of Shocker Hall.
