Applied learning at Wichita State

At Wichita State, applied learning is everything. In fact, every degree we offer has a guaranteed applied learning or research experience built right into it equipping you with the relevant skills and experience to make you workforce ready before graduation.

Admission to the program

The program is available to students who currently hold a bachelor's or advanced degree, or students pursuing a master's degree, such as the Master’s in Aging Studies

Prospective AIT students should have coursework or equivalent professional experience in aging programs or services, long-term care or senior living, management, and / or health care. Students who are not actively pursuing a graduate degree program at WSU can register to take the practicum as a non-degree bound student through the Office of Continuing Education.

Curriculum

The practicum consists of 480-hour placement with a qualified nursing home administrator. If additional curriculum is needed, relevant courses in Senior Living Management are available through the Department of Public Health Sciences. The practicum can be started in the fall, spring or summer and students can take up to one year to complete. AITs are advised to work closely with their preceptors to best prepare for the licensure examinations.
