Applied learning at Wichita State

At Wichita State, applied learning is everything. In fact, every degree we offer has a guaranteed applied learning or research experience built right into it equipping you with the relevant skills and experience to make you workforce ready before graduation.

Admission to the program

To be admitted into the doctorate program, applicants must have:

  • A minimum 3.25 GPA in all graduate coursework
    • Bachelor's to doctorate applicants must have a 3.50 GPA during the final 60 credit hours of coursework
  • A master’s degree in engineering, physical science or other related discipline
    • Bachelor's to doctorate applicants must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science or other related discipline
  • Satisfactorily completed MATH 343 (Calculus II) and IME 255 (Engineering Economics)
  • Applicants whose native language is not English must submit official, acceptable scores for either the TOEFL, the Academic Module of the IELTS examination, or the PTE-Academic test

Grad student's career takes flight with Spirit internship

Curriculum

The industrial engineering doctorate curriculum equips you with the knowledge and skills to conduct independent research – and offers advanced knowledge in the industrial and manufacturing engineering domains.

To earn the Ph.D., students must pass a preliminary exam, a dissertation approval exam and a dissertation defense.
