Welcome Adult Learners!

We are excited to introduce the Adult Learner Community and Connections program! Our goal is to equip adult learners who are experiencing their first semester or first year at Wichita State with the necessary skills, connections, and resources to confidently begin or continue your college experience. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where students can develop self-confidence and a strong sense of belonging.

About the ALCC program

Rooted in Andragogy (or adult learning theory), Adult Learner Community and Connections is a new and innovative approach to ensure adult learners have a smooth and seamless transition into Wichita State University (WSU). This will be accomplished by equipping our students with the necessary skills, connections, and resources to either begin or continue their college experience with self-confidence and a sense of belonging.

Who is it for?

ALCC was designed for adult learners who are experiencing their first semester or first year at Wichita State University, although any adult learner at WSU could benefit from it.

How can students benefit from this program?

ALCC addresses the lack of community and belonging felt by adult learners through the connection to peer ambassadors within assigned small peer groups. It is also delivered through Blackboard, WSU’s learning management system, and will be grounded in a holistic approach through the creation of 8 interactive online modules built around the components of well-being. This will empower adult learners to better navigate technology with confidence, while also gaining knowledge of, at minimum, 5 commonly used campus resources
