- Accommodations range from 19,000-34,000 Yen at an average of 26,500 Yen a month for on campus dormitories. A one time 30,000 Yen housing admission fee was added to the total estimate.
- Meals are budgeted at 150,000 Yen per semester.
- Okayama University is easily accessible by bike. The university recommends purchasing a bike rather than paying for public transportation.
- No exact estimate was provided by the partner university; however, we estimate that you should not spend over $150 for textbooks for one semester.
- The GeoBlue Student Insurance Plan is required for international travel. The total cost is based on the total number of days the student is abroad. As of July 2024, it cost $1.46 per day for a maximum $100,000 coverage and $100 deductible. 150 days (5 months) will be approximately $219. There are different coverage plans available at different prices.
- International students are required to participate in the Japanese National Health Insurance (NHI) Program. The average monthly premium is approximately 2,000 Yen.
- The University requires liability insurance. The cost varies depending on the insurance chosen, but averages 1,030 Yen per month.
- US citizens are exempt from visa fees.
- Airfare cost was provided according to Orbitz as of July 2024 with travel dates of January 6, 2025 – June 2, 2025. This should provide a good estimate to cover the airfare expense.
- Personal expense estimates are provided by Financial Aid for students living on the WSU campus, which will be similar during a study abroad program.
* Tuition and Fees are based on the Resident rate for 12 undergraduate credit hours at Wichita State University. Students will pay their current tuition rate during the study abroad program based on their residency and any specific college/department requirements.
