As we gathered Sept. 3 to celebrate Chris Cavanaugh's upcoming retirement, I wanted my first Internal Audit blog post, as his successor, to both thank Chris and recognize his 35 years of service to Wichita State University. Throughout those 35 years, he has served in the vital governance role of Internal Auditor and as a steadfast standard-bearer for integrity and accountability.
Over the course of his career, Chris successfully partnered with six university presidents and countless campus leaders and constituents. He also collaborated closely with his Internal Audit peers across the Kansas Board of Regents system, helping strengthen the profession and advance best practices throughout higher education in Kansas.
The world and our university have hanged significantly over the past three decades, and the Wichita State community should be proud of and grateful for Chris's contributions. Among his many accomplishments, he built and led an Internal Audit function that is trusted, respected and valued by stakeholders across the institution.
My best wishes to Chris and his wife, Mary Kay, as they reach this important retirement milestone. We thank him for his years of dedicated service and wish them both health, happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.
