Dual Advising

The completion of an associate's degree does not guarantee that all general education requirements needed at Wichita State have been met. By taking advantage of Wichita State's dual-advising program, you can streamline your transition to becoming a Shocker and achieving your academic goals.

Through dual advising, you can:

  • Develop a relationship with a Wichita State advisor who can answer program-specific questions
  • Create a course of study that is appropriate to your academic goals
  • Reduce unnecessary enrollments — saving time and money
  • Receive timely information on deadlines, scholarships, financial aid and curriculum changes
  • Get an inside look at resources available at Wichita State
  • Meet with Wichita State faculty before you enroll

How to get started

  1. Go online to wichita.edu/dualadvising and complete a dual advising form*
  2. A Wichita State dual advisor will contact you to schedule an appointment
  3. Meet with both your community college advisor and your Wichita State advisor each semester

*The dual advising form should only be completed for prospective students coming from a Kansas community college. Check out the Transfer Gateway to see how your credits may transfer to your desired degree by visiting wichita.edu/transfergateway.

Pro tips for transfer students

  • Schedule a campus visit
Campus visits can be scheduled at wichita.edu/visit and generally include a meeting with an admissions representative, a walking tour of campus, an appointment with someone in your area of academic interest and a tour of campus residence halls. Additional events occur on and off campus all the time, many with specific transfer experiences available, so check the site regularly.
  • Scholarships and federal financial aid
Transfer Merit Scholarships are available to new incoming direct transfers for fall who enter Wichita State with between 12 and 74 overall transfer credit hours and a minimum 3.25 transfer GPA. Funds are awarded automatically based on admissions information with no additional application required. Learn more at wichita.edu/scholarships and be sure to check out the exclusive scholarship search platform available only to admitted Shockers at wichita.edu/scholarshipuniverse.

In addition to Transfer Merit Scholarships, Wichita State awards more than $110 million each year through a variety of federal, state and university funds (distributed among more than 60% of the Wichita State student body). To ensure you are eligible for all available funds, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov and include Wichita State's federal code (001950). The FAFSA opens in October this year, so complete and submit it as soon as it's open for federal aid packages awarded through Wichita State

For more information, contact the Office of Financial Aid, 203 Jardine Hall, 316-978-3430 or at wichita.edu/financialaid.
  • Apply for housing
Wichita State has one main housing option for transfer students: The Flats at Wichita State opened in fall 2017 and offers fully furnished, all-inclusive apartments for upperclassmen and transfer students. Residents enjoy a clubhouse and pool tables. For more information, or to apply online, visit wichita.edu/housing.
