Name
Samir Barraza
Year at WSU
Junior
Hometown
Colby, KS
Major
Computer Science with minors in Honors and Mathematics
Why I chose my major
I’ve been involved with tech since a young age, and growing up with sci-fi and superhero
movies has encouraged me to try to get closer to the cool science stuff we see in
the movies. I really enjoy the versatility of my major because computer science isn’t
just coding; it involves ethics, scientific reasoning, analysis, interpreting information,
and challenges in many ways.
Involvement
Student Ambassador Society, Hispanic American Leadership Organization, Wichita State
University Linux Users Group (WuLug), and Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS)
Why I chose Wichita State
Best school for my major, and academic scholarship opportunities
Favorite thing about WSU
Our community aspect. We have a plethora of organizations and club events that happen
all year round that there’s hardly a week without SOMETHING going on.
Favorite hobby to do in my free time
Music Creation, FPS Shooters, and RPGs.
Advice I'd give to an incoming student
You get to decide what you make of your college experience. You’re responsible for
yourself, so stay on top of classes, but find time to relax!
