Name
Olive Colfelt
Year at WSU
Senior
Hometown
Arlington, WA
Major
Physics and Chemistry with minors in University Honors, Mathematics and Japanese
Why I chose my major
I chose physics early on in high school because I was fascinated by a thought experiment
presented in my high school physics class, "Schrodinger's Cat." I fell in love with
the major as it sought to solve problems many people would not even believe exist.
I later chose chemistry as a second major as I realized where my passions overlapped
for nuclear and particle physics and chemistry research.
Involvement
Society of Physics Students, Society of Women Engineers, Honors Ambassador, tutor
at GEEKS, tutor at the Shocker Learning Center, McNair Scholar, study abroad, and
BILL'S Trip.
Why I chose Wichita State
I chose Wichita State because of the mixture of small class sizes and wealth of opportunity.
I knew I didn't want to go to a huge school because I wanted my professors and advisors
to know me by name, which is exactly what I got here. It is also incredibly affordable,
even as an out-of-state student!
Favorite thing about WSU
My favorite thing about Wichita State is by far the people. The people I have met
during my time at Wichita State have been some of the nicest, hardworking, determined,
and intelligent people I have met in my life.
Favorite hobby to do in my free time
Video Games!
Advice I'd give to an incoming student
Ask questions. Clarification will take you so far in your classes. I have always admired
the people who are not afraid to say they don't know how to do something. Inside and
outside of the classroom, you should strive to always seek clarification!
