Since 2015, Wichita State’s Office of Online and Adult Learning has been serving students age 24 and older pursuing their bachelor’s degree. The office provides a place where adult learners are welcomed and offers a variety of services including:
- A free coffee bar with a Keurig, Morning Blend coffee, and cream and sugar upon request. If you aren’t a coffee drinker, they still have options for you like hot chocolate, Earl Gray tea, and hot apple cider.
- A resource room with computers for adult learners to work on homework, or tables and chairs if you need to sit and study. The office also has a large whiteboard for students to brainstorm ideas or work out math problems.
- Free printing!
- The Joe Stone Lounge, named in honor of the oldest person to receive an undergraduate degree from Wichita State, is a comfortable, quiet place where adult learners can study.
- The only Osher Reentry Scholarship Program available for adult students in Kansas. WSU undergraduate students who have experienced a five-year cumulative gap, are pursuing their first bachelor’s degree, and enrolled in no more than 50% of classes online are eligible to apply for the Osher Scholarship.
- The Adult Learning Mentorship Advantage Program (A-MAP) which helps adult learners succeed in their educational journey through either becoming a mentor or a mentee.
- The Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society honors academic excellence in adult students, recognizing the barriers they face as they work toward their degrees.
- Dr. Pamela O’Neal, the Associate Director of The Office of Online and Adult Learning, was an adult learner herself, so she understands the struggles many adult learners face and is proud to assist in any way she can.
- Melissa Lubbers, the Social Services and Grants Specialist, is also an adult learner. Her previous experience in counseling has given her knowledge about many useful services that she is happy to recommend to adult learners.
If you're an adult learner, be sure to stop by the office located in Grace Wilkie Annex to meet our friendly staff and check out the services available to you here at Wichita State!
