On-Campus Offerings Can Make Every Day Burger Day

There is a designated day for nearly everything nowadays and burgers are no different. August 25 is recognized as National Burger Day and burger days are the best days. And an entire day devoted to them, delightful! Wichita State’s campus has many burger options for you to celebrate the perfect food.

Freddy’s Steakburgers

Located on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center Freddy’s has a great burger and the best fries and ice cream on campus. But we’ll save that discussion for a Fry-day and National Frozen Custard Day. Freddy’s serves smash burgers - patties which are thinly pressed with crispy edges and topped with Freddy’s Famous Steakburger and Fry Seasoning. Each burger is made with 100% lean ground beef and cooked to order. There are lots of burger options and topping options so you can spend all semester mixing and matching to find your favorite combo!

Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes

If you head downstairs in the Rhatigan Student Center, you’ll find Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes and the next stop on our burger journey. Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes has two burger options on their menu, plus a vegetarian black bean burger and monthly burger changes you won’t find on the menu. Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes has lots of other food options if burgers somehow aren’t your thing. It is also the location of the cheapest bowling in Wichita!

Shocker Hall Dining

Next door to the RSC is our next stop. You don’t have to live in the dorms to eat at Shocker Hall Dining, which is fantastic because they have so many options! Shocker Hall is set up like a typical cafeteria, but the options are anything but typical. There are several themed stations, including an international station that changes regularly, but we’re here to discuss burgers. The Daily Grill station is a DIY burger station, with four cheese options and other toppings. Another benefit to Shocker Hall Dining, you can go back as many times as you want all for one price! And you can create the perfect meal, sides aren’t limited to the typical fries, chips, or onion rings.

Social Tap Drinkery with Sungrano Pizza and Wheatly’s Burgers

On the other side of campus is Shocker Nation’s newest burger spot. The atmosphere here can’t be beaten. Social Tap has a collection of board games, conversation starters that flash across the TV wall and outside dining that gives you a great relaxing view of the fountains. But we’re discussing burgers. Wheatly’s doesn’t have as many options as the others, but they have great quality food, and probably the best ranch dressing in Kansas! They also have a black bean burger, but it’s popular so it seems to sell out often.
