A List of Our Favorite Coffee Spots in and Around Campus

Wichita State Admissions staff enjoy coffee at the Cargil Cafe'Matt Crow/Undergraduate Admissions

National Coffee Day is a day worth celebrating every year!

Coffee shops are there for college students when warm (or cold) cups of joe for early mornings or late-night study sessions are needed. The Wichita community has many great options for coffee lovers!

But where are the best places to get coffee? We have some good answers!

Wichita State has four coffee options on campus. There is the Cargill Café, Market at GroundHouse, Starbucks, and Credo Coffee. Cargill Café only recently opened up in the lobby of the brand-new Woolsey Hall which houses the Barton School of Business.

Another option is the Market at GroundHouse which is in Shocker Hall next to the Dining Hall. Need to quickly grab a snack and a cup of coffee? GroundHouse is perfect for a quick purchase for those on a tight schedule.

Credo Coffee offers coffee brewed from beans roasted by Carmelite Monks in Wyoming. They are located in the St. Paul Catholic Student Center, 1810 N. Roosevelt, on the south side of campus.

Wichita State also has two separate Starbucks locations - one in the Rhatigan Student Center (RSC) and a free-standing location off 21st Street on the northeast part of campus. Starbucks is a very popular place for students and staff to buy coffee or enjoy a sweet treat.

The best part? Three of the above places take Shocker Dining Dollars - Cargill Cafe', Market at Groundhouse, and the RSC Starbucks. Students can use the Dining Dollars from their meal plan to purchase coffee and don’t have to pay out of pocket - convenience and affordability!

We are very grateful for our coffee options on-campus, but there are also plenty of options for those looking to venture off-campus and try the local brews. Here are our off-campus recommendations:

Fairmount Coffee Co.

The closest option is just across the street from the main campus. At Fairmount Coffee Company, located on 17th Street on the south side of campus, students are easily able to walk over to grab coffee and food! Fairmount is a popular place for Wichita State students to hang out and meet friends, or have a study session. Fairmount’s uses roasters Oddly Correct and Messenger coffee which are both out of in Kansas City.

Il Primo Espresso

Il Primo is smaller in size, but their coffee has HUGE flavor! They have fun specialty drinks for each season and just released their fall specials. Definitely worth taking a trip to try their flavorful coffee and you can even try a fun flavor of cold foam on top!

Leslie Coffee Co.

Have you ever heard of Leslie Coffee Co.? No? Look them up right now! This coffee company has one of the most aesthetically pleasing interiors you will ever find. They are the kind of coffee place you go to take pictures of your coffee and food before you dig in. “Phone eats first!" Their menu focuses on more traditional coffee drinks and sizes with a few seasonal drink options. Check out their incredible avocado toast, too!

Reverie Coffee Roasters

Reverie coffee is available at both the Cargill Cafe' and Market at Groundhouse on campus. However, they're main location is near downtown on Douglas in Wichita. If you are a hardcore coffee fan, Reverie Coffee Roasters is a place for you to check out! Reverie is unique to Wichita because they roast their own coffee! Reverie roasts all kinds of beans using a variety of methods so they can provide their customers with a variety of coffee flavor. They also have a beautiful assortment of pastries and sweet treats!

Crafted

Another nearby recommendation is local coffee, tea, dole whip & poké stop, Crafted! Crafted is extremely creative with their drinks. They offer various kinds of coffees, lemonades, limeades and teas! My favorite coffee to get at Crafted is their Nutella Frappuccino. Crafted also has a great ambiance which makes it the perfect place to hang out with friends or even study in-between or after classes!

It is worth noting that this list doesn't include even a fraction of all the local coffee shops in the Wichita community, which means any student should have a fun time making every day Coffee Day and trying them all!
