Shockers Offer Tips for Taking the ACT

While Wichita State is test-optional, meaning an ACT/SAT score is not needed to be accepted, it is often required to be eligible for scholarships. Prepping for the ACT can be stressful. Luckily, current and former Shockers share their best tips for reaching your test goals.

ACT Tips - Dimitri Seneviratne, "Practice, Practice, Practice! You can find tests from previous years online and they are perfect preparing yourself for whatever they thrown at you!"

ACT Tips - Alexander Dewerff, "Eat a good breakfast the morning of the test! You don't want ot crash in the middle of it, so eat something nutritious that will keep you alert!"

Other Wichita State University students have shared their wisdom taking the ACT to help those preparing for the big day:

Buy an ACT prep book or look at some ACT apps prior to the ACT. Practice the sections that aren't your strongest. Memorize the concepts and the steps to get to your final answer. The questions won't be exactly the same, but the concepts will be!

Take a deep breath and relax! The more you panic, the harder it will be to manage time. Also, if you're going to guess on several in a row, choose the same letter. You have a better chance of getting at least one right  that way!

Make sure to eat breakfast before and bring a snack along. The last thing you want is to lose focus because you're hungry!

I listened to an ACT geared podcasts while driving to the test to review basic rules of each subject and to get me in the right mindset before the test! Check out '36: The ACT Prep Podcast' on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
